Caparol-Haftgrund / Primer Interior

Primer for emulsion paints and emulsion-silicate paints. For interior use. Emission-minimised and solvent-free.

Field of Application

White pigmented, special priming paint for covering priming coats on interior substrates prior to the application of synthetic emulsion paints or emulsion-silicate paints. As adhesion promoting priming coat on smooth, sound/stable substrates, e.g. gypsum plasterboards, concrete, gypsum plasters of mortar groups PIV and PV, and gypsum building boards. As grip promoting priming coat on smooth, slightly absorbent substrates before the application of all types of wallpapers.

Material Properties

  • Easy to apply, water-thinnable, ecologically compatible, low odour.
  • Diffusion capable, sd value 0.03 m (tinting may cause variation).
  • High adhesion.
  • Homogenizes the surface absorbency.
  • Good covering power.
  • Grip promoting priming coat for emulsion-silicate paints on substrates not allowing a proper silification.

Material Base / Vehicle

Modified synthetic dispersion/emulsion to DIN 55945.

Packaging/Package Size

  • Standard Product:
    5 l,12.5 l
  • Caparol-Haftgrund Airfix:
(ready for roller and spray application)

Colours

White
The primer can be tinted max. 25 % with CaparolColor or AVA – Amphibolin
colourants.

Caparol-Haftgrund can be tinted via the ColorExpress tinting machine system in bright-toned shades of all current colour collections (luminosity up to approx. 70).

Storage

Keep in a cool, but frost-free place.

Density

approx. 1.7 g/cm3

Suitable Substrates

The substrates must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all materials that may
prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, Part C, DIN 18 363, Paragraph 3.

Substrate Preparation

See Technical Information No. 650 for suitability of the primer on different substrates and their special treatment.

Thinning

Exclusively dilute with water.

Surface Coating System

Caparol-Haftgrund is usually applied undiluted, but can be adjusted to working consistency with up to 5% of tap (potable) water or CapaSol LF.

Consumption

Approx. 150 – 200 ml/m² on smooth surfaces. On rough-textured substrates correspondingly more.
The exact rate of consumption is best established by a trial coating on site.

Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65% relative humidity recoatable after approx. 12 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.

Tools

Caparol-Haftgrund can be applied by roller (14–16 mm pile height), brush and spraying equipment.

Airless application:
Spray angle: 50°
Nozzle size: 0.023–0.025"
Spray pressure: 150–180 bar
Equip the spray gun with a filter (green, rough type) for dispersion paints. Stir well and sieve the material before use.

Tool Cleaning

Clean tools immediately after use with water.

Note

Compatibility with other Materials:
To preserve the specific properties, the product must not be mixed with any other materials except CapaSol LF, CaparolColor or AVA • Amphibolin colourants.

German Certificates

The Fraunhofer Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institute (WKI) has audited the inoffensive application for interior use. The material is certified with German TÜV quality mark "pollutant-tested /supervised manufacturing process?. German test certificate is available on request.

Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)

Keep out of reach from children. Use P2 dust filter for grinding. Ensure good ventilation during use and drying. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the paint. In case of contact with eyes or skin, immediately and thoroughly rinse with water. Do not allow product to enter drains, waterways or soil. Clean utensils immediately after use with soap and water.

Further information: See Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. In Germany: Dispose containers with residues of liquid product via waste collection point accepting old paints and enamels. Dispose dried/hardened product residues as construction site/demolition/municipal or domestic waste.
