Description
Material DescriptionCapaCoustic Melapor elements consist of a thermosetting, flexible melamine resin foam with a filigree open-pored structure.
System Description
CapaCoustic Melapor panels may be bonded either directly as a wall covering or ceiling lining onto the stable substrate or may be positioned to the ceiling as a baffle or floating (suspended) ceiling panel using standard T-shaped guide rails.
CapaCoustic Melapor elements are excellently suitable for a later renovation, due to quick mounting and easy handling.

Field of Application
For rooms showing an intensive reverberation effect it is very often necessary to take reverberation regulating (suppressing) measures. In such cases the application of systems provided with sound-absorbing properties is used in order to reduce the reverberation time in all relevant rooms. For this purpose special open-porous and head-porous materials are used to reduce the penetrating sound energy.
The sound energy reducing effect is achieved by the friction of air molecules (being set into oscillation by sound propagation) with pore sides within the open-pored structure.
Typical application areas are, e.g.:
– Offices and call centres,
– Showrooms,
– Restaurants,
– Schools and day-care centres,
– Meeting rooms,
– Training rooms or seminar rooms,
– Machine shops and production halls,
– Sound studios.
Material Properties
- High sound absorption (see diagrams).
- Temperature resistance:
Long-term: -40 °C up to +180 °C
Short-term: up to +200 °C - Heat conductivity: 0.035 W/(mK) according to DIN 52612.
- Fire behaviour classification: C-S1, d0, tested according to DIN EN 13501-1; corresponds to class B1 according to DIN 4102-1 (with adhesive and paint coating, tested within the system).
- Bulk/green density: Approx. 10 kg/m³

The substrate must be even/planar, clean, dry, solid, sound/stable, free from all substances, that may prevent good adhesion and should be slightly absorbent.
Carefully remove dust, dirt/soiling and coats of flaking paint. Prime the substrate, if necessary.
See Technical Information No. 160 for preparing suitable substrates.
2. Bonding of CapaCoustic
Melapor Panels
2.1 Preparation of Adhesive/Glue
CapaCoustic Melapor-Kleber (adhesive/glue) is ready for use with notched trowels, without using any further additives. Stir the product shortly with a suitable low-speed electric paddle (agitator). Adjust to application consistency with a small amount of tap (potable) water, if necessary. For lambskin roller application adjust the application consistency with max. 2 % of tap water, if necessary.
2.2 Application of Adhesive/Glue
Notched trowel application:
Apply an even layer of adhesive to the surface to be coated or onto the CapaCoustic Melapor Panel and then treat with a notched trowel (3x3 mm notching).
Roller application:
Apply with a lambskin roller (13 mm pile height) and evenly spread to the surface to be coated or onto the CapaCoustic Melapor Panels, until a uniform surface wetting is achieved. In both procedures the CapaCoustic Melapor Panels must be bonded without delay, when CapaCoustic Melapor adhesive (glue) is applied.
Open time of adhesive (glue): Approx. 15 minutes at 20 °C.
Diminished adhesion may occur with a higher substrate absorbency, higher temperature, humidity or movement of the air due to accelerated drying of adhesive.
2.3 Consumption
Approx. 1.5 kg/m2
2.4 Application Temperature
Lower temperature limit during application and drying: +5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
2.5 Bonding
Stick CapaCoustic Melapor Panels to the stable substrate. It is advisable to use a suitable pressure board, e.g. large surface PU disc, to avoid punctiform loads which may cause partial damage of panels. Avoid soiling of fair-faced panels with adhesive mortar. Provide for a min. 20 mm wide shadow gap in order to achieve a convincing visual effect.
3. Suspension of Baffle Elements
3.1 CapaCoustic Melapor Baffles
Mounting parts (suspension attachment) for vertical or horizontal suspension from ceilings are not included in the scope of delivery, but are optionally deliverable. Product No.: 034/20
3.1.1 Mounting of CapaCoustic Melapor Baffles
Insert the T-shaped guide rail of CapaCoustic Set 034/20 to the Baffle and suspend it from ceiling, using the wire ropes and fixing elements of the set.
To avoid any slip out of position it is advisable to lock the Baffle element with a silicone blob, when mounted.
If required, the Baffles may also be suspended from the ceiling with customary T-shaped guide rails,
e.g. made by USG/Donn, and using suitable fixtures (mounting accessories) and structures.
3.2 CapaCoustic Melapor Decken-Segel / Floating Ceiling Panels
The floating ceiling panels are fixed to the ceiling at four anchorage points. Fixtures for a continuously variable suspension (max. 4.5 m): Included in delivery.
4. Colour Coating
CapaCoustic Melapor elements can be coated (before or after mounting) with CapaTrend in the desired colour shade. Preliminary sampling is required when the coat of paint should match an existing surface in shade.
4.1 Preparation of Paint
Dilute CapaTrend with approx. 30 - 40 % of tap (potable) water.
4.2 Application of Paint Coat
Apply the paint coat only by high pressure or low pressure spraying method. Apply 2-3 mist coats of diluted paint crosswise in a distance of approx. 25 cm. Crosslinking of paint on the surface must be avoided. Airless application is not advisable.
4.3 Consumption
Approx. 100 ml/m2 (undiluted)
4.4 Drying of Elements
Allow elements/panels to fully dry between working steps/operations. During the drying phase they should be supported on an even substrate or must be hung to keep shape.
All elements must be thoroughly dry before they can be bonded or hung.
Drying time: Min. 24 to 48 hrs., depending on temperature and relative humidity.
Workmanship:
Wear clean gloves for bonding and mounting of CapaCoustic Melapor elements to avoid any soiling of the elements/panels.
Customization:
CapaCoustic Melapor elements/panels can be cut to size with a sharp utility knife.
Dimensional Tolerances:
Up to 250 mm: ± 3 mm
Over 250 up to 1,000 mm: ± 5 mm
Over 1,000 up to 2,000 mm: –5/+10 mm
Shrink Holes/Pores:
The panels may have pores in various sizes (max. 15 mm) and frequency.
Colour Deviation:
Uncoated elements may vary (slightly) in colour, due the manufacturing process.
