Suitable Substrates

Normal and heavy concrete, Disbocret® mortars (fillers & surfacers) and mineral renders/plasters.
Cementitious flow mortars, ameliorated with synthetic resin, must be checked for compatibility by trial application, if necessary.
The adhesive tensile (pull-off) strength of substrates must be 1.0 N/mm2 on an average, with a minimum individual value of 0.5 N/mm2.

Substrate Preparation

The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, and free of loose/brittle material that may prevent good adhesion. Remove adhesion diminishing substances (e.g. oils, fats/greases) by suitable means. Soiling of the substrate with e.g. moss and algae growth or vitreous, unstable cement laitance must be removed using e.g. solid blasting medium and suitable equipment.
The substrate must be free from corrosive substances (e.g. chlorides).
Repair spallings, cracks, pores, shrink holes, surface roughness and unevenness thoroughly with adequate materials out of the Disbocret® System, according to described standards, to achieve an even, sufficiently thick protective coat. Repairs may be more or less noticeable, depending on workmanship.

Preparation of Material

Dilute the material with 20 % of tap (potable) water for priming coat and mix thoroughly until a uniform material is achieved.

Intermediate and Finishing Coats
Disbocret® 535 BetonLasur is ready to use, but should be stirred up before application. Tint the material via ColorExpress station for preparing a protective semi-transparent scumble/glaze coat on concrete surfaces.

Method of Application

The material can be applied with paint brush or roller.
It is advisable to apply the material to the full surface using soft brushes, e.g. oval brush or whitewash brush. Apply crosswise with short action. After a short waiting time, the surface should be treated with a wiper to achieve an even glaze effect.
The material should not be applied in direct sunlight or on sun heated substrates, during strong wind, fog or rain, high relative humidity or imminent rain or frost, etc. Protective tarpaulins should be used, if necessary. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C DIN 18 363, paragraph 3.

Layer Thickness

Min. 80 µm dry film thickness is necessary to produce an effective surface protection.

Surface Coating System

Priming Coat
Prime normally absorbent, textured and exposed aggregate concrete surfaces with one coat of Disbocret® 535 BetonLasur, diluted with 20 % of tap/potable water. In addition, very highly or irregularly absorbent substrates should primarily be treated with CapaSol LF Concentrate (diluted with tap water in 1 : 2 ratio) for equalising the absorbency.
To enhance the frost and de-icing-salt resistance, Disboxan 450 Fassadenschutz can also be used as an impregnating priming coat.
Prime uncoated horizontal top view surfaces with Disboxid 420 E.Mi Primer and strew/scatter quartz sand Disboxid 942 Mischquarz evenly on the surface.

Intermediate and Finishing Coat
Apply Disbocret® 535 BetonLasur without dilution.
Depending on substrate brightness the applied transparent protective coating may yield to a slight colour deepening effect. A trial application should be completed on concrete elements made of white cement or with white marble additives, as colour variation may occur.
The colour of glaze/scumble coats should always match the substrate in shade, in order to avoid an uneven colouration of the glazed surface. To avoid lapping, the material should be applied by min. two qualified skilled workers, wet-on-wet and without interruption.

Design Guideline
Wall glazes are translucent (semi-transparent) materials, hence the colour and texture of the substrate will be noticeable. The visual appearance is highly influenced by the colour, degree of absorbency, condition of the substrate, film thickness of applied glaze, tools used for application and individual mode of operation. Therefore a trial application is essential.

Consumption

Priming CoatApprox. 110–220 ml/m2
diluted material
Intermediate and Finishing Coat
on coarse washed concrete or rough-textured surfacesApprox. 110–220 ml/m2
undiluted material per coat
on even or finely textured surfacesApprox. 90–220 ml/m2
undiluted material per coat

Consumption is highly depending on the absorbency and texture of the substrate, hence a trial application is advisable.

Application Conditions

Material, Atmospheric, and Substrate Temperature:
Min. 5 °C and max. 40 °C

Drying/Drying Time

At 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity, dust dry after approx. 1 hour, rain-resistant after approx. 6 hours and recoatable after approx. 12 hours.

Tool Cleaning

Immediately after use with water.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.
Keep out of the reach of children. Do not breathe vapour/aerosol. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Do not empty into drains, water courses or onto the ground.

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
In Germany: Only completely emptied containers should be given for recycling. Dispose containers with residues of liquid material as remnants of water-based paints and dried material as hardened paints waste or via domestic waste.

EU limit value for the VOC content
