Substrates
The substrate must be solid/stable, dry, clean, even and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Follow Technical Information No. 650.In Germany: Follow supplementary information given in VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.
On substrates with contrasting colours: One previously applied priming coat of Capadecor DecoGrund or Caparol Haftgrund.
Substrate Preparation
Plasters according to DIN EN 998-1 Class CS II - CS IV / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Solid, normally absorbent and even plasters can be coated without primer. On slightly sanding, absorbent renders, apply a primer coat with a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund.
Gypsum plasters according to DIN EN 13279-1 / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Sand and remove dust from gypsum plasters with sintered skin, apply a primer coat with a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan Deep Primer.
Plasterboard: Apply a primer coat to absorbent boards using a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund.
Gypsum plasterboard: Sand off the filler burrs and remove dust from the surface. Prime sanded gypsum filler areas and the plasterboard with a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund. Always apply a primer coat with a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan DeepPenetrating Primer if the absorption behaviour is strong. For boards with water-soluble, discolouring ingredients, apply a primer coat with Caparol AquaSperrgrund fein (observe Technical Information No. 384). Observe BFS data sheet no. 12.
Note Q2/Q3 levelling / thin layers of gypsum < 0.5 mm: When using gypsum-based, hydraulically setting levelling compounds in quality level Q2/Q3, a transparent, water-based primer is recommended. Please refer to the Maler&Lackierer Merkblatt Nr. 2 -9/2020 "Haftfestigkeitsstörungen von Beschichtungen auf verspachtelten Gips(karton)platten" of Bundesverbandes Farbe, Gestaltung, Bautenschutz und des Bundesausschusses Farbe und Sachwertschutz. As an alternative to gypsum-based Q3 levelling, levelling with pasty levelling compounds has proven itself.
Sand-lime brick exposed masonry: Dry-brush off existing salt efflorescence. Carry out a wetting test, if necessary apply a primer coat with a deep penetrating primer such as CapaSol RapidGrund
Concrete: Remove any release agent residues and flouring, sanding substances. Apply a primer coat using a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund.
Load-bearing coatings: Directly recoat matt, slightly absorbent coatings. Thoroughly roughen shiny surfaces.
Non-stable coatings: Remove non-load-bearing emulsion paints or synthetic resin plaster coatings. Prime sandy or absorbent surfaces with a deep primer such as OptiSilan Deep Primer. Remove non-load-bearing mineral paint coatings mechanically and remove dust from the surfaces, then apply a primer coat with a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund.
Distemper coatings: Wash off thoroughly. Alternatively, remove mechanically, rinse and apply a primer coat with a deep primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund.
Removed wallpaper: Remove all paste and waste residue and wash off if necessary. Apply a primer coat with a deep penetrating primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund
Surfaces with nicotine, water, soot or grease stains: Wash off nicotine stains and soot or grease stains with water with the addition of a grease-dissolving household cleaning agent and allow to dry thoroughly. Clean dried water stains by dry brushing. Apply a sealing primer coat with Caparol AquaSperrgrund fein (observe Technical Information No. 384).
Mould-infested surfaces: Remove mould by wet cleaning. Wash surfaces thoroughly with Capatox and allow to dry thoroughly. The legal and official regulations (e.g. the Ordinance on Biological Substances and the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances) must be observed. Increased protection against re-infestation can be achieved with an interior paint with long-term film protection, such as Indeko-W (observe Technical Information No. 800).
Old lime levelling techniques: Remove the sintered layer on the surface by sanding. If the wetting test with water on the sanded surface is negative, the entire layer of lime filler must be removed and the substrate rebuilt accordingly. If the wetting test with water on the sanded surface is positive, apply a primer coat with a deep primer such as OptiSilan TiefGrund.
Defects: Fill deep holes accordingly.
Method of Application
Applicable with paint brush, roller and high-performance airless spray equipment.Airless Application:
| Water dilution | 10-20 % |
Airless equipment | |
Spray pressure | 180–200 bar |
Spray angle1 | 40° - 50° |
Nozzle size in inches 1 | 0,017" - 0,019" |
Pistol plug-in filter in mesh | 50 - 60 |
High-pressure filter | yes |
✱ Clean tools with water after use
1) Select the spray angle and nozzle size so as to achieve a uniform spray pattern without
edge streaks.
Alternatively, use CapaColl VK for spray application.
When bonding AkkordVlies Z120 K, Z130 K or Z150 K, the adhesive layer applied using the airless method
should then be rolled over with a roller (pile height 12–14 mm) to create an even and not overly thick adhesive bed.
Bonding:
Apply CapaColl GK generously and evenly using a roller or airless sprayer over approx. 1–3 strip widths,
embed the material immediately and press down firmly with a wallpaper scraper or roller to remove any air bubbles. On low-absorbent substrates, at low temperatures or high
humidity, allow the adhesive to flash off sufficiently before installing
tight-woven and laminated glass fabrics.
Surface Coating System
Application:Always follow the corresponding Technical Information before applying the wall covering.
Consumption
Glass Fabrics:Finely textured glass fabrics and fleeces: Approx. 150 g/m2
Medium textured: Approx. 150 - 250 g/m2
Roughly textured: Approx. 200 - 250 g/m2
Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+ 5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Drying/Drying Time
At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after approx. 6 - 12 hours. Thoroughly dry after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher relative humidity extend the drying time.Note
Dilute CapaColl GK with 20 % of tap (potable) water for bonding finely woven glass fabrics like 1100 K and 1100 VB. Therefore dilute CapaColl GK in the standard container and apply with a short pile lambskin roller, then allow to flash off sufficiently. The alternative product CapaColl VK can be used undiluted.Bonding of FantasticFleece and Capaver AkkordVliese: High material consumption may lead to the opening of edgings and should be avoided. For this purpose the use of CapaColl VK is advisable.
Reworking of gypsum fillers/surfacers: Provide for fast drying by means of sufficient ventilation and temperature to avoid swelling, blistering and spallings caused by long-lasting exposure to moisture.
In Germany: Follow Data Sheet No. 2 "Verspachtelung von Gipsplatten" (Filling gypsum boards), Bundesverband der Gips- und Gipsplattenindustrie (German Association of Gypsum Plasterboard Industry).
