Suitability according to Technical Information No. 606 Definition of Application Areas

Interior 1Interior 2Interior 3Exterior 1Exterior 2
+++++
(–) inapplicable / (○) of limited suitability / (+) suitable

Suitable Substrates

Cross-sectional areas of dimensionally stable, limited stable or unstable wood, exteriors.
Also applicable on edges (narrow sides) of wood-based boards, provided that they are suitable and feasible/approvable for exterior use. Also usable for moisture protection of strongly fissured wood surfaces (crack width < 0.7 mm). Follow the principles of constructional wood preservation.

Do not use for wooden parts in contact with soil/earth/ground.

The wood moisture content (WMC) must not exceed 15 %.

Substrate Preparation

Wood component parts must be checked for being free of constructional deficiencies. Defects/deficiencies must be remediated in a proper, technically correct manner. Sand end-grain surfaces and narrow sides of boards. Complete edges of component parts by sanding (radius: 2 mm). Remove all sanding dust very thoroughly.

Mixing Ratio

Mix component A and B in ratio 1 : 1 (parts by volume).

Method of Application

Mixing: Cut cartridges above thread and insert both cartridges (component A + B) in a suitable dual cartridge caulking gun. Alternatively two normal caulking guns can be used. Press two threads of component A and B  in same length and required quantity onto a wooden board for mixing, side by side, and close the cartridges using delivered threaded caps.

Mix both components thoroughly with a scraper, until a homogeneously coloured and streak-free compound is achieved.
Apply Capadur Repair H evenly by brush or scraper onto the surface (cross-sectional area or narrow side of wood board). Normally one application is sufficient, but fissured or highly porous wood surfaces may require a second coat. For sealing strongly fissured surfaces (crack width max. 0.7 mm) apply Capadur Repair H as scratch filler by scraper.

Note: Fill cracks always flush with the surrounding surface and remove all exceeding product.
Waiting time between each coat of Capadur Repair H: min. 24 hours.

Reworking with waterborne or solvent-based primers, wood paints, enamels & stains/glazes is effected according to the normal surface coating system. A previous intermediate sanding of Capadur Repair H is obligatory.

Consumption

Approx. 300 to 500 ml/m2 per coat, depending on the texture of wood surface.

Workability

Pot life: Approx. 45 minutes at 20 °C air temperature. Pot life is shorter at higher temperatures. Avoid application under a glaring sun.

Application Conditions

Processing temperature: Min. 10 °C, max. 30 °C for ambient air, product and substrate. Relative humidity (RH) must not exceed 85 %.

Drying/Drying Time

Dust dry after approx. 4 hours. Can be sanded after approx. 16 hours.
Recoatable after approx. 16 hours with waterborne or solvent-based Caparol primers, wood paints, enamels and stains/glazes. A previous intermediate sanding is obligatory.

When a second coat of Capadur Repair H is necessary, it can be applied after 24 hours, at the earliest.
Full chemical and mechanical loadability (curing) is obtained after approx. 7 days
(drying time at 20 °C and 60 % RH).

Tool Cleaning

with special cleaning wipes or Disboxid 419 Verdünner (thinner).
