Capadur ClassicLasur

Thin-bodied alkyd wood stain for limited stable and unstable wood. For exterior use.
  • LV Texte

    Field of Application

For colourful designing and protection of wooden parts with limited dimensional stability or parts of unstable shape, such as fences, balustrades, shuttering, carport, pergola, etc.

Germany: Follow BFS-Merkblatt/Data Sheet No. 18, section 2.2.3 et seq. for coating boards of derived timber products, e.g. wood plates, veneer plywood.
    Only suitable for exterior use

This product is provided with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) and algal (algae) attack. In most cases such a film preservation ensures an effective protection for years against fungal & algal attack. But the content of film preservation agent is reduced to an ecologically worthwhile/justifiable rate, thus in individual cases a premature attack may occur, highly depending on the biological loads on site. In spite of containing a film preservation, on boards made of derived timber products (e.g. plywood, veneer plywood, laminated veneer lumber et al.) a durable protection against fungal attack cannot be guaranteed. On principle, a premature attack must be taken into consideration (even before lapse of warranty time). Roof soffits are, depending on construction and finish, also highly prone to fungal attack, thus cannot be warranted. Together with constructional/structural measures the use of preservative agent is the only way to protect the surface film of coatings for a longer period against the risk of fungal and algal (algae) attack.

    Material Properties

    • Low dripping viscosity
    • Thin-bodied (thin-film-forming)
    • Open porous, moisture regulating
    • High UV protection
    • Easy and elegant application
    • Eminently suitable for renovation
    • Non-flaking
    • Film protection to counteract fungal attack on the film surface

    Material Base / Vehicle

    Alkyd resin with non-aromatic solvents.

    Packaging/Package Size

    • Standard Colours:
    750 ml, 2.5 l, 5 l
not all standard colours are available in all package sizes.
    • ColorExpress:
    750 ml, 2.5 l, 5 l

    Colours

    Standard Colours:
Transparent (Farblos), Pine (Kiefer), Oak (Eiche), Nut Tree (Nußbaum), Walnut (Walnuß), Mahogany (Mahagoni), Teak, Palisander, Ebony (Ebenholz), White (Weiß).

All colour shades can be blended in any mixture ratio. Tinting is possible via ColorExpress stations (Capatint and Capalac mix) in special colours of the Caparol 3D System PLUS colour card/fan and in many colour shades of other colour collections. Tinting base is the colour shade Transparent.

Use transparent product only for priming coat (equalising the absorbency of wooden substrates) before applying pigmented coats of wood stain, otherwise a sufficient protection of wood from UV rays cannot be guaranteed.

    Gloss Level

    Matt to silk-matt (mid sheen).
The gloss level may vary depending on the wooden substrate.

    Storage

Keep in a cool place, in tightly closed packaging.

    Density

    Approx. 0.90 g/cm3

    Suitable Substrates

Absorbent, limited dimensionally stable wood and wooden parts of unstable shape.
The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Max. permissible wood moisture content (WMC) in hardwood: 12 %, in softwood: 15 %.
The principles of constructional wood preservation are to be observed. They are the basis for a durable wood protection with coating materials.

    Substrate Preparation

    New Wooden Parts:
Sand smooth and planed surfaces in fibre direction, clean thoroughly and remove seeping wood contents, e.g. wood resin/rosin and resin galls.

    Untreated Existing Wood:
Remove greyish, weathered surfaces until a sound/stable substrate is obtained, then clean thoroughly.

    Coated Wood:
Remove existing coatings of enamels/varnishes and full-bodied wood stain to the stable, absorbent wood surface.
Sand the surface of adherent thin-bodied wood stain, clean and check for compatibility with Capadur ClassicLasur.

    Method of Application

    Application:
Capadur ClassicLasur is normally ready-to-use, but should be stirred after a longer holding time. Capadur ClassicLasur is preferably applied by brush. If roller applied the product should be refinished by brush.
Capadur ClassicLasur is provided with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal attack and therefore can only be applied by spraying equipment within enclosed spray booths, regarding the local industrial safety regulations.

    Thinning

Apply Capadur ClassicLasur in undiluted form.

1)Two intermediate coats are necessary for light colour shades to achieve proper UV protection. One intermediate coat is sufficient for dark colours (type Nut Tree /Nußbaum and darker). The transparent (colourless/unpigmented) product offers no UV protection and is preferably used as a base material for being tinted.

    Consumption

Brush application on smooth wooden surfaces:
    Approx. 80 - 100 ml/m2 per coat, depending on the substrate's absorbency.
Brush application on unplaned (roughly-cut) wood:
    Approx. 200 - 250 ml/m2, depending on the substrate's absorbency.
Consumption is only a guide value and may vary, depending on substrate requirements. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

Low Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
Min. 5° C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Relative humidity must not exceed 80 %.

    Drying/Drying Time

At 20° C and 65 % relative humidity: dry and recoatable after 12 hours.
The drying time and gloss level is influenced by the substrate's absorbency.
On wood with content of wood components (e.g. oak wood) the drying time may be longer.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid release to the environment. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.
