UniversalLasur Aqua

Water-dilutable wood glazing with hydrophobic properties.

For the production of the binder camelina oil is used as a renewable resource.

  • LV Texte
  • Field of Application

Suitable for moisture proofing and colouring of dimensionally stable wood construction elements, such as windows and outer doors, wooden parts with limited stability, e.g. wooden boards with tongue and groove, window shutters, gates, timber framing, etc., and for wooden parts of unstable shape, like external panelling, fences, pergola, carports and balcony balustrades. Only suitable for exterior use! The product is provided with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould). Windows and outer doors may be coated on all sides.

    Material Properties

    • Water-dilutable
    • Low odour
    • Water-repellent/hydrophobic due to water droplets roll off effect
    • Excellent UV resistance due to UV blocker
    • Highly diffusion-capable
    • Non-blocking
    • The glaze is temporarily protected against fungal attack

    Material Base / Vehicle

    Alkyd resin and acrylate-hybrid binder

    Suitable Substrates

Dimensionally stable wood construction elements, parts with limited stability or wood of unstable shape on exterior surfaces of buildings. Horizontal surfaces must be masked, e.g. with suitable protective steel sheets. The principles of constructional wood preservation are to be followed. The penetration of run-off rain water/rainfall into the structure must be avoided (prevent stagnant moisture). Provide for sufficient splash water protection.

The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Check existing coatings for stability and compatibility. Max. permissible wood moisture: 15 % (has to be checked prior to the application).
Board-like wood material/composite panels must be approved for exterior use on facades and compatible for being coated. Follow information supplied by the manufacturer.

In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 18.
Do not use on cement-containing boards/building materials. The suitability of product for use on board-like wood material/composite panels cannot be generally warranted, thus the compatibility has to be checked very thoroughly. Do not use on flooring and roofing.
In Germany: Observe intervals for care and maintenance according to BFS Data Sheet No. 18, attachment C.

    Substrate Preparation

    New Wood Surfaces:
Sand/grind even surfaces in fibre direction, clean thoroughly, remove seeping wood components, e.g. resins and resin galls.

    Existing Wood Surfaces:
Sand/grind off greyed, weathered surfaces to the stable substrate and clean thoroughly.

    Coated Wood Surfaces:
Remove unstable existing coatings completely to the stable substrate. Sand the surface of adherent coatings, clean and check for compatibility.

Algal and Fungal Attack (Mildew/Mould) on Exterior Wood Surfaces:
Wash algal and fungal attack completely off and treat the surface with Capatox. Prepare the substrate as mentioned before. Please follow Technical Information Capatox.

    Method of Application

UniversalLasurGeo is ready-to-use for brush and roller application. On large-scale surfaces apply with a roller and then treat directly using a brush. On warm weather conditions the surface should be pre-wetted and directly coated. Use only as much material as can be applied without lapping. Provide for sufficient staff members on the job, if necessary. The product cannot be spray applied, due to the content of film preservative against fungal attack.

    Thinning

UniversalLasurGeo is ready-to-use, but should be diluted to a max. of 5 % by volume with tap (potable) water, when the substrate is highly absorbent or in warm weather.

1)For an optimal UV protection three applications (priming, intermediate and finishing coat) are necessary for bright shades (this does not apply for the wood grain technique). One priming and finishing coat will normally be sufficient for dark shades (Walnut/Gingko or darker). Transparent material has not enough UV protective properties and is preferably used as a base material for tinting.
    2)

Pretreat defective areas of existing paint coatings according to substrate requirements.

    Consumption

Approx. 80 ml/m2per coat on smooth surfaces.
Approx. 150 to 200 ml/m2 per coat on unplaned wood.
Consumption varies depending on the type of wood and surface finish. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+8 °C for material, substrate and ambient air.
Relative humidity must not exceed 80 %.
