Suitable Substrates

Mineral based substrates, load-bearing existing renders, base coats and paint layers.

Substrate Preparation

Substrates must be clean, dry, adherent, sound, and free from all material that may prevent good adhesion, e.g. formwork release oil. Remove burrs.
Remove damaged, peeling paints, coatings and textured renders or plasters as far as possible.
Remove all render or plaster coatings without sufficient adhesion to the substrate (hollow spots) and adjust repaired areas to the surrounding surface (flush with surface).
Clean absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces thoroughly until a solid substrate is achieved and prime with Sylitol Konzentrat 111 (primer concentrate).

Application Conditions

Processing temperature: +5 °C to + 30 °C during application and curing of the use adhesive for adhesive mortar, substrate and ambient air.

Fitting of Insulation Boards

Cutting the insulation boards
For cutting the insulation boards use the Capatect Hanf-Schneidegestell 689/22 (hemp cutting rack) in conbination with the Capatect Hanf-Schneidegerät 689/06 (hemp cutter, e.g. Bosch Alligator).
Recommendation: Use the Capatect Wellenschliffmesser 689/08 (serrated knife) up to 10 cm thickness and the Capatect Sägeblatt 689/07 (saw blade) for thicker boards.

Attaching the insulation boards
Adhesive:  Capatect Klebe- und Spachtelmasse 190 resp. Capatect X-TRA 300
Consumption: 5-6 kg / m2

Prior to application of the adhesive to the back of the insulation boards, a primer as  press-filling must be carried out with this adhesive.

Apply the adhesive in the bead-point method (5 cm wide around the edge and 3 to 6  palm sized heaps in the middle) to achieve a contact area ≥ 40% after placing the boards .
Adjust the thickness of applied material (base height) to the tolerances of the substrate.
Irregularities up to ± 1 cm can be evened by this application method.
The rows of insulation boards must be applied 50% staggered one beneath the other.
Place insulation boards thoroughly from bottom to top without open joints - press together and then press on firmly. Avoid the penetration of adhesive material into butt joints (board sides) – such material has to be removed.
Follow the alignment and vertical lines for installation.
Spaces that may occur should be filled with insulation strips or - up to 5 mm width - with hemp fiber wool. Take care to avoid offset at the joints.
For transition-joints between different substrate materials or facing concrete claddings, the insulating boards should bridge the joints min. ≥ 10 cm wide on both sides. Take care for an optimal adhesive bedding.

Fixing with wall anchors additionally mandated

Capatect Hanffaser-Dämmplatte 688 shows 3 pre-drilled dowel holes. Additional holes can be drilled using the Capatect Hanf-Bohrer 689/01 (hemp drill). Anchoring is made with approved anchors, e.g. Capatect Universaldübel 053 flush with the surface.

Minimum number of anchors per m2:  depending on the characteristic wind loads (increasing with the negative loads) and national regulations for a safe fixing:
In Germany for instance :
Wind load ≤ - 0.8 kN / m2: 6 anchors / m2 with washer Ø at least 60 mm
Wind load ≤ - 1.6 kN / m2: 8 anchors / m2 with washer Ø140 mm
The wall Anchors must be placed flat to the surface. Respect system-related anchor layout drawings.

Note: Protect fixed insulation boards  from moisture and cover them with the reinforcing layer at short notice.

Reinforcing layer based on Capatect Klebe- und Spachtelmasse 190 or Capatect X-TRA 300
Step 1: Apply a press-filling coat on top of the insulating board with the reinforcing mortar.
Step 2: The reinforcing mortar is applied "fresh in fresh" over the entire surface of the insulation boards in two layers and the reinforcement fabric is to embedd.
1st layer thickness: 2 mm: consumption: 2.4 - 3 kg / m2 (levelling filler)
2nd layer thickness: 5 mm: consumption: 6 - 7 kg / m2
Ensure a total layer thickness of 7-8 mm.

Window sills and further details

In case of dust while processing wear protective dustproof clothing  and dust mask P1. For mechanical processing (sawing, drilling, grinding, milling) and for overhead work, wear protective goggles.


Waste should be avoided by careful cutting and re-use. Nevertheless, dispose of any small material residues according to EWC 170604 (insulating material).
