Suitable Substrates
Mineral substrates of new buildings or sound and solid existing render or paint coats.
Substrate Preparation
Substrates must be clean, dry, adherent, and free from all substances, that may prevent good adhesion. Formwork oil residues, soiling and mortar burrs are to be removed. Remove unsound, flaking existing paint and textured render coatings as far as possible. Cut off render with hollow spaces and repair flush with the surrounding surface. Clean highly absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces very accurately up to the solid substrate level and prime with Sylitol-Konzentrat 111.
Consumption
per 1 m2: 1 m2 plus offcuts
Application Conditions
Processing temperature during application and curing of adhesive: +5 °C to +30° C for material, substrate and surrounding air.
Bonding of Insulation Boards
Manual application of the adhesive: Apply adhesive material (corresponding to the ETIC system) thoroughly to the reverse side of the thermal insulation board using a notched trowel for full covering to achieve full-faced adhesion to the substrate.Mechanical application of the adhesive (full-faced fixing): Apply the adhesive mortar mechanically onto the wall surface to achieve a 10 mm thick coverage. Smooth the fresh mortar with a notched trowel (notches depending on surface roughness) just before placing the boards into the fresh mortar. Place the insulation boards immediately into the fresh adhesive mortar bed by slightly moving sideways and press on. To avoid skinning, only as much adhesive surface may be submitted, as can be immediately covered.
Mechanical fixing of the insulating boards by dowels: After curing of the adhesive, the fire barrier in the plinth area is to fix additionally by dowels with a minimum of 3 dowels per board. The requirements for the position and arrangement of the dowels are given in the underlying general approval or assessment.
In the protection zone "room fire" the boards are to be fixed with min. 2 dowels per insulation board. Project-specific calculations can lead to to higher numbers of dowels. Further information to the dowel placement in the corresponding general building approvals and relevant dowel tables must be observed.
Already fixed insulation boards are to protect against moisture and covered with reinforcing compound in a short term. Voids or open board joints must be filled with insulation strips.
Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)
Wear protective clothing (dust-tight) and dust mask P1 when occurring dust. For mechanical processing (sawing, drilling, grinding, milling) and in case of overhead work wear goggles. See also: guidelines of BG BAU (professional insurance) for processing mineral wool insulation (in German).
Disposal
Waste must be avoided by careful cutting and re-use. Nevertheless resulting low material residues to be disposed as per EWC 170604 (insulation material).
