Facade insulation boards made of phenolic resin foam with fleece lamination on both sides according to EN 13166

LV Texte

Field of Application

Phenolic resin foam façade insulation boards for fixing with adhesive and anchors in Capatect façade systems. Particularly suitable as a space-saving solution for loggia and soffit areas, dormers, etc.

Material Properties

  • Highly heat insulating
  • Fleece laminated on both sides
  • Diffusible
  • Does not drip burning
  • HBCD-free, CFC-free and HCFC-free

Colours

Pink, laminated with white fleece on both sides.

Storage

Dry, protected from moisture.

Do not store phenolic resin insulation boards directly on the floor. Cover insulation packs with foil at the construction site, protect insulation boards from direct sunlight. Avoid prolonged unprotected UV exposure of the boards. Storage results in a change in the color of the board, but the board properties do not change as a result.

Note

The "allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung" (general building authority approval) / "allgemeine Bauartengenehmigung" (general type approval) of the ETICS or the product and the data sheets of the products must be observed.

Substrates

Mineral substrates of new construction, solid old plasters, load-bearing old paints or coatings, as well as other load-bearing, level substrates or in accordance with the specifications of the "Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung" (AbZ)/ European Technical Approval (ETA) of the ETICS.

Substrate Preparation

The substrate must be clean, dry and load-bearing. Contamination and substances with a separating effect (e.g. formwork oil) as well as protruding mortar burrs must be removed. Damaged, peeling coats of paint and textured plaster must be removed as far as possible. Hollow areas of plaster are to be knocked off and flush with the surface. Highly absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned down to the solid substance and primed.
The compatibility of any existing coatings with the adhesive mortar must be checked knowlegeably.

Consumption

1 m2/m2

Application Conditions

During application and in the curing phase, the ambient and base coat temperatures must not be below +5°C and above +30°C. Do not apply in direct sunlight, strong wind, fog or high humidity.
In this context, we refer to the leaflet "Verputzen, Wärmedämmen, Spachteln, Beschichten bei hohen und niedrigen Temperaturen" (Rendering, thermal insulation, filling, coating at high and low temperatures) from the Bundesverband Ausbau und Fassade (Federal Association for Finishing and Facades).

In case of unfavourable weather conditions, take suitable measures to protect the processed facade surfaces.

It is recommended to use the side of the insulation board printed with "wall side/ Wandseite" as the adhesive side.

Remove the outer packaging of the insulation boards at least 10 minutes before application, as the insulation boards must relax before installation.
Installation parts with direct contact to the phenolic resin insulation material, such as base and corner beads, must be made of plastic, stainless steel or aluminium or be protected against corrosion. Contact of other unprotected metals with phenolic resin insulation material leads to corrosion and must be avoided.
The fleece lamination on the plaster side must not be damaged, e.g. by sanding off any existing unevenness.
Cut insulation boards only with a saw, knife, etc. Cutting with hot wire is not possible.
Do not bring into contact with aromatic solvents.
Phenolic resin insulation boards are not suitable for plinths.

Installation

Adhesion
  • Lay the insulation boards at least 10 cm apart in a bond and butt them tightly.
  • Butt joints and bedding joints must remain free of adhesive.
  • Never seal joints between insulation boards with adhesive.
  • Fill joints ≤ 5 mm with suitable flame-retardant joint foam.
  • Close joints and voids > 5 mm with equivalent insulation strips
  • Avoid height offsets at panel joints
  • Interlock insulation materials at building corners
  • Ensure that the application is flush and plumb.
  • Damaged insulation boards must not be installed

Butt joints of insulation boards must not be located above the connection zones of different building components (e.g. ring beams, roller shutter boxes, element joints). The insulation boards should bridge at least 10 cm here and be supported on both sides by a secure adhesive joint.
Expansion joints existing in the building must be taken over in the thermal insulation composite system.
Protect unrendered insulation boards on the façade from moisture and coat with reinforced base coat as soon as possible.

Bead-dot method
Apply a circumferential bead at the edge of the board and adhesive dots in the centre.

  • Render systems - adhesive contact area ≥ 40 %.

Full-surface bonding
On level substrates, the adhesive can be applied over the entire surface using a notched trowel. The insulation boards must be pressed in, floated in and pressed against the substrate immediately, after 10 minutes at the latest, with the side to which the adhesive has been applied.

Machine bonding (partial surface method)
Apply the adhesive (Capatect CS-Klebe- und Armierungsmörtel 850) by machine to the substrate in the form of vertical beads. The adhesive beads must be approx. 5 cm wide and at least 10 mm thick in the centre of the bead. The centre-to-centre distance must not exceed 10 cm. Immediately press the insulation boards into the fresh adhesive bed, float them in and press them on. To avoid skin formation, only as much adhesive may be applied as can be directly laid with insulation boards.

  • Adhesive contact area ≥ 60

Anchoring
The insulation boards must be glued to the substrate and fixed with anchors. The number of anchors is determined by the wind load calculation. Dowelling is carried out after the adhesive has hardened.

Flush with the surface:
The insulation boards can be fixed with approved plate anchors (plate diameter min. 60 mm).

  • Position of the anchors: in the surface or in the surface and joint.

Recessed:
The insulation boards can be fixed with approved plate anchors (e.g. Capatect Universaldübel 053) in combination with Capatect Thermozylinder 154 (plate diameter 110 mm) and Capatect Universaldübel-Rondelle PF 052.

  • Position of the anchors: in the surface
  • Insulation thickness: from 80 mm insulation thickness onwards

Anchoring through the mesh:
The insulation boards can be fixed with approved plate anchors (plate diameter 60 mm) through the reinforcing fabric after applying the base coat.

  • Position of the anchors: according to DIN 55699

Coating
Base coat:
Do not leave insulation boards uncoated for more than approx. 7 days. Use "Capatect CS-Klebe- und Armierungsmörtel 850" in 5-7 mm layer thickness with "Capatect Gewebe 650" as base coat on the facade insulation boards.

Finishing render:
Rework the base coat layer with the finishing renders belonging to the system. In flame-retardant ETICS, a total layer thickness of at least 7 mm must be observed.

Note
The insulation material is not suitable for spiral anchors and mounting elements such as DoRondo-PE mounting anchors and ZyRillo mounting cylinders, which are only glued into the insulation material. Attachments are only fastened using mounting elements that are fixed to the substrate or otherwise suitable.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Cutting is recommended for the application. Sawing, milling and grinding leads to considerable dust loads. Wear suitable protective gloves, skin-covering work clothes and protective goggles/mouth protection during application.

Disposal

Waste should be avoided by careful cutting and reuse. Nevertheless, small material residues should be disposed of according to EAK 170604 (insulation material).
Information on the recycling of material cuttings without adhesive and filler adhesions can be obtained from the "Industrie- und Handelskammern (IHK)" (only for Germany).
