Substrate Preparation

Mask off window sills and add-on parts.

Carefully cover glass, ceramics, clinker, natural stone, painted, glazed and anodised surfaces.

Masonry, concrete or firmly adhering coatings must be clean, dry and load-bearing. Remove impurities and separating substances (e.g. formwork oil) as well as protruding mortar burrs. Damaged, peeling old coats of paint and textured plaster must be removed as far as possible. Hollow areas of plaster are to be knocked off and flush with the surface.

Highly absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to solid substance and primed with "Sylitol® RapidGrund 111".

Preparation of Material

Add the contents of a 25 kg bag of Capatect 850 gradually into 9 - 10 l of tap (potable) water  and mix carefully with a low-speed electrical paddle (agitator) until the mixture is free of lumps.
Do not prepare more mortar than can be processed within two hours. Already hardened material can not be made applicable by adding water.

Method of Application

As adhesive mortar:

Bond insulation boards in bead-dot, stripe or toothed-bed method. Minimum adhesive area: 70 % for silicate mineral insulation boards. Butt areas of the insulation boards must remain free of adhesive. Never seal joints between insulation boards with adhesive, but with insulation strips or PU filling foam.

Float the insulation boards in the adhesive bed in a staggered manner, tightly butted.
Bead-dot method: Apply a continuous bead at the edge of the board so that no adhesive is pressed into the butt or bed joint when the boards are butted. Apply additional adhesive stripes for each insulation board so that the required adhesive area ratio is achieved.

Tooth bed method: Apply adhesive over the entire surface and comb through using a toothed trowel (minimum teeth 10 x 10 mm). Use adhesive method only on even substrates.
Machine application of adhesive: Apply material to the back of the insulation board using a suitable mortar pump and glue gun.

Note:
Depending on the system, different bonding methods or bonding surface proportions may be required in accordance with the system approval.

As base coat:

Apply corner protection to window reveals and edges of façade openings by embedding the entire surface in the base coat.
Apply the material according to the desired layer thickness by machine or manually with a stainless steel trowel, comb through with a toothed trowel R and level with a cartridge.
Lay mesh "Capatect Gewebe 650" in open mortar bed, overlapping by 10 cm, and level.
Embed the mesh in such a way that it lies in the centre of the base coat with a thickness up to 4 mm, above 4 mm thickness in the outer half.
In corner areas of building openings additionally embed "Capatect Diagonalarmierung 651/00" or fabric strips (25 x 25 cm) diagonally into base coat.
Maintain a layer thickness of 5-7 mm.

Consumption

As adhesive for thermal insulation boards: Approx. 7 kg/m2
Base coat: approx. 1,1 kg/m2 at a thickness of 1 mm.
Reference value without account of spilling, loss or individual conditions on site. The exact rate of consumption is best established by a trial application.

Application Conditions

Processing temperature: +5 °C to + 30 °C during application and curing for material, substrate and ambient air.
Do not apply on sun heated substrates (direct sunlight), during strong wind, fog, rain, high relative humidity or imminent rain and frost.

In this context, we refer to the leaflet "Verputzen, Wärmedämmen, Spachteln, Beschichten bei hohen und tiefen Temperaturen" from the "Bundesverband Ausbau und Fassade".

Drying/Drying Time

At 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity, the base coat is surface-dry after 24 hours. The curing time is approx. 1 day per mm application thickness. "Capatect Klebe- und Armierungsmasse 850" dries by hydration and physically, i.e. by additional evaporation of the mixing water. Particularly in the cool season and with high humidity, drying is therefore delayed.

Tool Cleaning

Immediately after use with water.

Note

If necessary, cover the scaffoldings with tarpaulins to protect the surface from rain during the drying phase. Follow national or local regulations and specifications for application of mineral based mortars.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Causes skin irritation. Causes severe eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. If medical advice is needed, have packaging or label at hand. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not breathe dust or mist. Use only outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Wear protective gloves/eye protection. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if possible. Continue rinsing. Call a POISON CENTRE/doctor immediately. Keep under lock and key. Contains: Calcium dihydroxide, cement, Portland, chemicals. Aqueous cement slurries have an alkaline effect.

Additional information: Wear long trousers. Avoid prolonged skin contact with the render. Immediately clean affected skin thoroughly with water. The longer fresh render remains on your skin, the greater the risk of serious skin damage. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's health and safety instructions during the application phase.

Disposal

Only empty sacks ("trickle-free") should be sent for recycling. Can be landfilled after concentration, when in compliance with local regulations.
