Suitable Substrates

Mineral substrates, sound, adherent existing renders and plasters, sound existing paints or coatings.

Substrate Preparation

Masonry, concrete or adherent coatings must be clean, dry and sound/stable. Impurities and substances that may prevent good adhesion as well as putty burrs have to be removed. Defective, flaking existing paint coats and textured renders/plasters must be removed where possible. Clean cavities in render/plaster, then fill flush with the surface. Clean highly absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces down to the rigid body and prime with Sylitol-Konzentrat 111.
Protect window sills and adjacent elements by suitable masking tapes.

Consumption

Approx. 4.0–4.5 kg/m2
Consumption values are reference values without spill and losses. Object- or process-related variations have to be taken into account. The exact rate of consumption is best established by a trial.

Application Conditions

Processing temperature min. + 5 °C and max. 30 °C during application and drying for material, substrate and ambient air. Do not apply in direct sunlight or on sun heated or frozen substrates and during rain or frost.

Drying/Drying Time

At 20 °C and 65% relative humidity (RH) the adhesive is surface-dry after 24 hours and cured for stress after 2 - 3 days. The material dries by hydration and physically, i.e. by evaporation of water. Lower temperatures and higher RH extend the drying process. Dowels (if required) should be fastened after sufficient hardening of the adhesive, i.e. after approx. 1 day.

Tool Cleaning

Immediately after use with water.

Material Preparation

Capatect-Dämmkleber 185 can be used with all common types of flow mixers and can also be prepared manually. For manual application pour the contents of a 25 kg bag of Capatect Dämmkleber 185  gradually into 5.5 to 6 litres of tap water and stir up with a suitable low-speed electrical mixing paddle until the mixture is free of lumps. Leave to stand and swell for approx. 10 minutes and stir up again. Adjust to working consistency by adding a small amount of tap water, if necessary. Workability/pot life: approx. 2 hours, depending on weather conditions. Never mix slightly hardened or stiff material with water (such material is unusable).

Example for Machine Equipment

Flow mixer Berö Calypso 15 with standard dosing or mixing helix.
Follow the instruction of the machine manufacturer strictly!
Electrical connection: Three-phase current (400 V/16 A, via site distribution with RCCB)
Water supply: Hose 3/4 ˝ with GEKA, required water pressure of running machine at least 2.5 bar.
Water flow: Approx. 200 l/h. The desired consistency is to be adjusted via the fine adjustment valve on the mixer.

Bonding of Insulation Boards

Apply Capatect-Dämmkleber 185 thoroughly to the reverse side of the thermal insulating board by using the "Bead-Point-Method". A bead of material, approx. 5 cm wide, surrounds the board and 3 blobs (palm of the hand sized) are to be applied in the middle of the board.
Adjust the thickness of applied material to the tolerances of the substrate, such that  40% surface area is in contact with adhesive. Irregularities up to ± 1 cm can be equalised by this application method. Place the boards thoroughly from bottom to top touching each other (pressing together) and press on thoroughly. The rows of insulating boards must be applied 50% staggered (offset) one beneath the other. Avoid the penetration of adhesive into joints. Follow the alignment and vertical lines for installation.

Cover the scaffolding with tarpaulins during the drying phase to protect the surface from rain. Follow DIN  18550-1 and DIN 18 350.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)
