  • After brief setting the surface (that has already started to harden)
can be felted with a moistened felt or sponge float.
  • Fine-grained, grain size max. 0.6 mm
  • Vapour diffusion resistance factor µ (H2O): µ < 12
  • Suitable for manual and machine application.

Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be solid, sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

Substrate Preparation

Sound/Stable Renders/Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars)
and PIII (Cement Mortars):

Carefully clean the surface and remove all layers of low adherence.
Prime sanding surfaces with Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 to 1:1 with tap (potable) water, depending on substrate absorbency.Cracked Render/Plaster Surfaces:
Only surfaces with stabilised cracks are suitable. Surfaces with active, moving cracks are not suitable. Chip off hollow areas (local separations), if necessary. Fill damaged areas with Histolith® Renovierspachtel; use Histolith® Trass-Porengrundputz for deeper spallings (>20 mm).

Stable Existing Paint Coatings:
Carefully clean the surface. Apply one priming coat of Histolith® Quarzgrund.

Preparation of Material

Histolith® Renovierspachtel is applicable by hand or with all common types of plastering machines.
For manual preparation add tap (potable) water, in quantity required per 25 kg bag, into the mixing pond. Stir the material thoroughly with a suitable low-speed electric paddle mixer, until the mixture is free of lumps. Leave to stand for approx. 5 minutes, then stir again. If necessary, adjust to working consistency with a small amount of tap water.
Water demand per 25 kg bag: Approx. 5 - 6 litres.
Processing time: Approx. 90 minutes at 20 °C and 65 % RH.

Method of Application

Apply with stainless steel trowel or with suitable plastering machine.
After levelling and brief setting, smooth (felt-sponge) the surface that has already started to harden with sponge float or use stainless steel smoothing trowel.
Max. layer thickness per coat: 10 mm for full surface application; 20 mm for individual repair patches.

Embedding Reinforcing Fabrics: Draw out Histolith® Renovierspachtel to about 4 mm thickness.
Embed Capatect-Gewebe 650 (Fabrics) overlapped by 10 cm and press down firmly.
Then cover the full surface to a layer thickness of approx. 2 mm and smooth down, avoiding the forming of burrs.
If a felt-sponged surface for painting is needed, after 24 hours draw out a second layer about 3 mm thick and, after brief setting, treat evenly with felt tool (sponge float).

Surface Coating System

Histolith® Renovierspachtel can be coated with all Histolith® facade paints. Treat the mortar surface previously with Histolith® Fluat and rinse with clean water.

Consumption

Approx. 1300 - 1500 g/m2 per mm of layer thickness (dry product) depending on substrate roughness. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Drying/Drying Time

Overpaintability: At 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity after 7 days.

Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

Note

Protective Measures:
The areas adjoining the surface to be coated should be carefully masked, in particular glass, ceramics, enamel/varnish coatings, clinkers, natural stone, metals and wood.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Restricted to professional users.
Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. Do not breathe dust. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Use personal protective equipment as required. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical advice/attention. Do NOT induce vomiting.

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
In Germany: Only completely empty bags should be handed in for recycling. Dispose hardened residues as mixed working site and demolition waste.
