Histolith FassadenKalk

The weather-resistant lime coating
LV Texte

Field of Application

Structure-preserving lime paint with linseed oil additive for lime coatings, especially for the preservation of historic buildings. Particularly suitable for coating lime-rich renders and for renovating absorbent, mineral-based old coatings.

Material Properties

  • Weather resistant
  • Lightfast pigmentation
  • Refined with linseed oil
  • Hydrophilic
  • Low tension
  • Natural protection against algae and fungi

Material Base / Vehicle

White lime, mineral pigments and fillers, minor organic additives to improve weather resistance and application (including linseed oil).

Packaging/Package Size

Bucket 12,5 l

Colours

White
Factory tinting in many colour shades on request

Self-tinting with lime-resistant tinting colours and dry pigments is possible. Pigment compatibility must be tested using a sample.

Due to the use of natural fillers and granules, slight colour variations are possible. Therefore, only use material from the same batch on contiguous surfaces or mix material from different batches beforehand.

Before application, the material must be checked for colour accuracy and condition. Complaints regarding deviations from the delivery target can no longer be recognised after application. Reference is made to the VDPM's "Leitfaden zu Prüfpflichten bei Anlieferung von Tönware im Rahmen der Untersuchungs- und Rügepflicht (§ 377 HGB)".

Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be solid, load-bearing, free from soiling, separating substances, dry, absorbent and frost-free.
Observe VOB, Part C, DIN 18363, Para. 3.

Substrate Preparation

Mask window sills and add-on parts.
Carefully cover glass, ceramic, clinker, natural stone, painted, glazed and anodised surfaces.

Old unpainted renders and old mineral coatings:
Clean the surface well. Remove any layers of low strength.

New renders according to DIN EN 998-1 Class CS I - CS IV:
Before coating, a standing time of at least 7 days at 20°C and 65% relative humidity must be observed.
Treat plaster repairs / sintered skin with Histolith® Fluat.
Alternatively, Histolith® FassadenKalk can also be applied freshly approx. 24 hours after the render application. Colour deviations and staining may occur with tinted coatings during fresco application. Furthermore, render shrinkage cracks may occur.

Differently absorbent mineral substrates:
Clean the surface well. Remove layers of low strength. Prime with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 to 1:1 in water depending on the absorbency of the substrate. On heavily repaired, slightly cracked substrates (shrinkage cracks), apply an intermediate coat of Histolith® Kalkschlämme.

Natural stones:
Only absorbent natural stone is suitable as a substrate. If possible, create a test surface and check the compatibility of the coating. Clean the surface thoroughly. Remove layers of low strength. Please note: In the case of natural stone with water-soluble ingredients, these can bloom on the painted surface and cause stains.

Fungal or algae-infested surfaces:
Wet clean surfaces with fungal or algae infestation. After drying, treat the surfaces with Capatox and leave to dry.

Preparation of Material

Stir the contents of the container thoroughly with a slow-running agitator.
Adjust to working consistency with clean water.

Method of Application

Apply with the brush in short strokes.

For machine application, please refer to the Caparol "Handbuch der Spritztechnologie".

Finish contiguous surfaces without interruption to avoid lapping in the textured layer. Divide large facades into clauses, apply continuously wet-on-wet and texture.

Surface Coating System

After pre-treatment of the substrate, apply a primer coat and a top coat, diluted with water up to a maximum of 15 %, depending on the absorbency of the substrate.

Alternatively, apply a primer coat with Histolith® Kalkschlämme and a top coat with Histolith® FassadenKalk or, in interior areas, Histolith® Innenkalk.

At high temperatures or in strong winds, it is recommended to moisten the already applied base coat with clean water immediately before applying the top coat and then apply the top coat to the matt damp substrate.

Post-treatment: Moisten the top coat evenly 24 hours after application with clean water using a suitable sprayer (e.g. Gloria garden sprayer). No water droplets should form.

Consumption

  • approx. 150-200 ml/m2 per coat on a smooth substrate

These consumption figures are approximate values.
Deviations depending on the property or processing must be taken into account.

Application Conditions

The ambient and substrate temperatures must not be below +8 °C or above +30 °C during the application and curing phase. Do not apply in direct sunlight, strong wind, fog or high humidity. Please refer to the leaflet "Rendering, thermal insulation, levelling, coating at high and low temperatures" from the German Federal Association for Finishing and Facades.

In unfavourable weather conditions, suitable measures must be taken to protect the facade surfaces being worked on.

Drying/Drying Time

The waiting time for reworking depends on temperature, humidity, air movement, sunlight and application thickness. The information is therefore intended as a guide.

  • Surface dry at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity after approx. 24 h
  • Can be painted over after approx. 24 h
  • rainproof after approx. 3 days

Tool Cleaning

Rinse with water immediately after use, observing the legal requirements.

Note

Depending on the condition of the substrate and weather-related influences, colour deviations and staining may occur.
It is advisable to apply a test coating, also to check the substrate compatibility. For application in summer temperatures, the scaffold should be provided with a moisture curtain (jute curtain) to be watered.
