ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC

New silicone resin based binder combination with integrated Nano-Quartz-Matrix Structure for efficient facade paint coatings using the Nespri-TEC spraying method. Provided with film protection against algal & fungal attack.

Field of Application

For efficient application within the special, mist-free Nespri-TEC spraying method. The paint with an essential benefit: Organically cross-linked nano-quartz particles form a compact, mineral-hard, three-dimensional quartz matrix structure against soiling and keep facades clean for a longer period.

The special silicone resin/binder combination provides rain-proof, highly water vapour permeable facade paint coatings, allowing fast drying after rainfall and when moist with dew. ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC is suitable for coating mineral renders and for renovation of stable, adherent silicate paints, matt dispersion/emulsion paints, synthetic (organic) renders and intact external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS/EWI systems).

Individual/special colours ex works, on request. Check tinted paint before applying to avoid colour differences. Always use tinted product of same batch, when applying on seamless surfaces.

ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC can be (limited) tinted to all current colour collections via the ColorExpress tinting & mixing machine system. 
Brilliant, intensive colours may have a lower opacity (hiding/covering power). It is therefore advisable to apply a first coat in a similar hiding pastel tint, based on white. Possibly a second finishing coat may be necessary.

Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

Substrate Preparation

New and Existing, Sound ETICS/EWI Systems with Surfaces of Synthetic (Organic) Render, Silicone Render, Lime Plaster (PIc) and Lime Cement Plaster (PII) / Minimum Compressive Strength as per DIN EN 998-1: 1 N/mm2:
Clean existing renders by suitable wet cleaning method. Maximum temperature for high-pressure water jet: 60 °C. Pressure: max. 60 bar. Allow to dry thoroughly. Coat with ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC according to the type of existing finish render and details as mentioned below.

Renders in Mortar Groups/Classes PIc (Hydrated Lime Mortar), P II (Lime-Cement Mortars), Class P III (Cement Mortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength as per DIN EN 998-1: 1 N/mm2:
New renders must be left untreated for a sufficiently long holding time, normally for 2 weeks at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity. Adverse weather conditions, e.g. influenced by wind or rain, extend the curing process and correspondingly longer holding times must be respected.
The risk of calcareous efflorescence on alkaline finish renders of mortar classes PIc, PII and PIII can be minimised by an additional priming coat of CapaGrund Universal and the finishing render may be coated after a holding time of 7 days.

Existing Renders:
Repairs must have adequate time to cure and dry. Apply one priming coat of AmphiSilan-Tiefgrund on highly porous, absorbent or slightly sanding surfaces. Prime highly sanding, chalking substrates with AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.

New Silicate Finishing Render:
Coat with Sylitol® NQG-W facade paint.

Existing Silicate Paints and Renders:
Clean stable (adherent) coatings by mechanical means or use high-pressure water jet, in compliance with the regulations. Remove non-adherent (unstable), weathered coatings by scraping, sanding/grinding or scratch off. Prime with AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.

Stable, Matt Emulsion Paint Coatings:
Clean soiled or chalking coatings with high-pressure water jet, in compliance with the regulations. If other cleaning methods are used (washing, brushing off, hosing with clean water) apply one priming coat of AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.

Stable Synthetic (Organic) or Silicone Resin-Bound Renders:
Clean existing renders by suitable means. Allow wet cleaned surfaces to dry thoroughly before any further treatment.

Unstable Coatings of Emulsion Paint or Synthetic (Organic) Render:
Carefully remove existing coatings by suitable means, e.g. mechanically or with a paint stripper and subsequently cleaning with high-pressure water jet, in compliance with the regulations. Prime slightly absorbent or smooth surfaces with AmphiSilan-Grundierfarbe. Prime chalking, sanding, absorbent surfaces with AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.

Unstable Mineral Paint Coatings:
Remove the coating completely by grinding, brushing off, scraping off, or use high-pressure water jet, in compliance with the regulations. Allow wet cleaned substrates to dry thoroughly before any further treatment. Prime with AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.

Facing Brickwork:
Only frost-resistant bricks or clinkers free of foreign inclusions are suitable for coats of paint. Jointing must be dry, free of cracks and salts (salty efflorescence). Prime with AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.
If brownish discolouration appear on the intermediate coat, use solvent-based paint Duparol for following coats.

Sand-Lime Brick Masonry:
Only frost resistant bricks, free of foreign inclusions, e.g. sand or loam, are suitable for coats of paint. Jointing must be free of cracks. Clean chalking surfaces. Remove salty efflorescence by dry wire brushing.
Germany: Follow BFS-Merkblatt (Data/Fact Sheet) No. 2. Apply one priming coat of AmphiSilan-Tiefgrund.

Surfaces with Salty Efflorescence:
Remove salty efflorescence by dry wire brushing. Apply one priming coat of AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger.
Coating of such surfaces must be considered a risk for which we cannot accept responsibility, since even after the most thorough treatment the efflorescence may recur.

Defects:
Repair small defects with fine filler Caparol Fassaden-Feinspachtel, deeper defects up to 20 mm preferably with Histolith-Renovierspachtel and prime repairs subsequently.

Method of Application

Only to be applied with special Nespray airless equipment.
 
Spray Application:
Spray angle: 30°
Nozzle: Special Nespray 0.016” – 0.019" double nozzle.
The product temperature is automatically controlled by the Nespray airless unit.
Spray pressure (opened pistol) of NESPRAYPLUS airless unit is in the green marked field of indicator (manometer/pressure gauge).
When using the NESPRAYKIT-Schlauchtrommel (hose reel) the spray pressure must be adjusted on the particular airless unit, on the responsibility of the workman.

Other coating materials, in particular primers, can also be applied with the Nespray airless unit, but a spray dust reducing (mist-free) effect cannot be guaranteed. Apply those materials with corresponding precautions.

Surface Coating System

Remove fungal or algal attack by wet-blasting, in compliance with the regulations. Then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow the surface to dry thoroughly.
 
Apply the first and/or intermediate and finishing coat of undiluted ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC with special Nespray airless equipment and immediately roll over very evenly with a standard facade roller. On proper (sound/stable) existing coatings, oftentimes one restorative coating is sufficient (consumption: min. 350 ml/m2).

Note: Two coats are necessary to obtain an adequate protection against algal and fungal attack. Observe a minimum drying time of 12 hours between coats.

Consumption

    • ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC:
      Approx. 250 ml/m2

Consumption applies for one coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

To get the best protection against algae and fungal attack, it is necessary to apply two coats with a minimum of 500ml / m2 for performing at least a layer thickness in the middle of 200 microns. Each additional application increases the layer thickness by approximately 100 microns, by applying a consumption of minimum 250 ml / m2 per coat. On rough surfaces and consumption are correspondingly higher.

Application Conditions

Low Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry after 2–3 hours, recoatable after 12 hours. Completely cured after 2–3 days. Lower temperatures and higher relative humidity extend the drying time.

Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with clean water.

Note

Do not apply under a glaring sun (on heated surfaces), during strong wind, fog, high relative humidity, or imminent rain or frost. Always apply wet-on-wet and without interruption to avoid lapping. Do not use on wood, metal, enamels, etc. Do not apply on horizontal surfaces exposed to rain or moisture. Protective tarpaulins or scaffolding-nets should be used, if necessary, depending on weather conditions. Facade plates, also if covering some levels of scaffolding, are to be coated plate by plate (wet on wet) and evenly rolled over in one direction to avoid the forming of different textures, which may be visible in adverse lighting conditions (grazing light). 

This product is provided with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to algae and fungal attack for prolonged – but not unlimited – protection, depending on the degree of moisture and intensity of organic infestation. Therefore a permanent protection cannot be guaranteed.

Mechanical loads (scratching) on matt facade paints in dark shades may produce bright-toned stripes as a product specific property (no writing resistance).

In case of moist weather conditions (rain, dew, fog) yellowish transparent traces ofadditives, showing a slightly glossy shine and stickiness, may occur on the surface of compact, cool substrates or by means of delayed drying caused by the weather. The traces of additives are water-soluble and will disappear under the influence of a sufficient water quantity, e.g. repeated intensive rainfalls. The quality of the dried coating will not be affected by these changes. In case of direct reworking, all traces of additives must be pre-wetted and completely removed after having respected a short reaction time. An additional priming coat of CapaGrund Universal must be applied. The traces cannot occur when the material is applied under suitable climatic conditions.Touching up surfaces depend on many parameters and may be visible after drying.

Copper ions in draining rain water (run-off water) may react with ingredients of ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC and may cause brownish discolourations. Thus all relevant copper surfaces must be protected against oxidation. Alternatively our product Muresko Nespri-TEC can be used.

Compatibility with other Materials:
Do not mix ThermoSan NQG Nespri-TEC with other paint materials.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label (intestinal bacteria can be affected). Do not empty into drains, water courses or into the ground. Ensure good ventilation during use and drying. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the product. In case of contact with eyes or skin, immediately and thoroughly rinse with water. Use P2 dust filter for grinding.
Contains: 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one. May produce an allergic reaction.

According to European Regulation 528/2012 this product is defined as a "treated article” (not a biocidal product) and contains the following biocidal substances: Carbendazim (CAS-No. 10605-21-7), Isoproturon (CAS-No. 34123-59-6), Terbutryn (CAS-No. 886-50-0), 2-Octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-on (CAS-No. 26530-20-1).

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
Germany: Only completely empty containers should be handed in for recycling. Dispose containers with residues of liquid product via waste collection point accepting old paints and enamels. Dispose dried/hardened product residues as construction site/demolition/municipal or domestic waste.
