    Suitable Substrates

The substrates must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Plasters according to DIN EN 998-1 Class CS II - CS IV / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Solid, normally absorbent and even plasters can be coated without a primer coat. On slightly sanding, absorbent plasters, apply a primer coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111. On more sanding plasters, apply a primer coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Gypsum plasters according to DIN EN 13279-1 / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Sand and remove dust from gypsum plasters with sintered skin, prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111.

Plasterboards: Prime absorbent boards with OptiSilan TiefGrund (for panelling, see also gypsum plasterboard).

Gypsum plasterboards: Sand off filler burrs and remove dust from the surface. Prime sanded gypsum filler areas and the gypsum plasterboards with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111. Always prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund if the absorption behaviour is strong. For boards with water-soluble, discolouring ingredients, prime with Caparol AquaSperrgrund fein (observe Technical Information No. 384) or Caparol-Filtergrund grob (observe Technical Information No. 845). Observe BFS data sheet no. 12.

Sand-lime brick exposed masonry: Dry-brush off existing salt efflorescence. Prime with CapaSol Rapid Primer or Sylitol® Rapid Primer 111. In case of strong absorption behaviour, prime with OptiSilan Deep Primer.

Concrete: Remove any release agent residues and flouring, sanding substances. Prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111.

Load-bearing coatings: Directly recoat matt, slightly absorbent coatings. Roughen glossy surfaces and lacquer coatings.

Non-absorbent coatings: Remove non-absorbent lacquer and emulsion paints or synthetic resin plaster coatings. Prime coarsely porous, sanding or absorbent surfaces with OptiSilan Deep Primer. Remove non-absorbent mineral paint coatings mechanically and remove dust from the surfaces. Prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Distemper coatings: Wash off primer clean. Alternatively, remove mechanically, rinse and prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Woodchip, relief or embossed paper wallpapers and patterned wallpapers: Coat without pre-treatment. A test coat must be applied to relief and embossed paper wallpapers and sample wallpapers. Foamed wallpapers can lead to intermediate reactions (stickiness, odour) when coated.

Removed wallpaper: Wash off paste and waste residue. Prime with OptiSilan Deep Primer.

Surfaces with nicotine, water, soot or grease stains: Wash off nicotine stains and soot or grease stains with water with the addition of grease-dissolving cleaning agents and allow to dry thoroughly. Clean dried water stains by dry brushing. Apply a sealing primer coat with Caparol AquaSperrgrund fein (observe Technical Information No. 384) or Caparol-Filtergrund grob (observe Technical Information No. 845).

Mould-infested surfaces: Remove mould by wet cleaning. Wash surfaces thoroughly with Capatox and allow to dry well. The legal and official regulations (e.g. the Ordinance on Biological Substances and the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances) must be observed. Increased protection against re-infestation can be achieved with the products Malerit-W, Indeko-W and Fungitex-W.

Wood and wood-based materials: Apply a primer coat of Capacryl Holz-Isogrund (Technical Information No. 961). On panels factory-coated with melamine resin, apply a primer coat of Capacryl adhesion primer (observe Technical Information No. 980). The joint areas/panel joints must not be reworked without cracks. For higher visual requirements, a decoupling layer with thin gypsum boards with appropriate levelling is recommended.

Old lime levelling techniques: Remove the sintered layer on the surface by sanding. In the event of a negative wetting test with water on a sanded surface, the entire lime filler layer must be removed and the substrate rebuilt accordingly. If the wetting test with water on the sanded surface is positive, prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

    Defects: Fill deep holes accordingly.

Note Q2/Q3 levelling / thin layers of gypsum < 0.5 mm: When using gypsum-based, hydraulically setting levelling compounds in quality level Q2/Q3, a transparent, water-based primer is recommended. Please refer to the Maler&Lackierer leaflet no. 2 -9/2020 "Adhesion problems of coatings on filled gypsum (cardboard) boards" of the Federal Association of Paint, Design and Building Protection and the Federal Committee for Paint and Property Protection. As an alternative to gypsum-based Q3 levelling, levelling with pasty levelling compounds has proven itself.

    Method of Application

Apply the product by paint brush or roller. Clean tools immediately after use with water.

    Surface Coating System

Pre-Treatment: Remove mould by wet cleaning. Wash surfaces thoroughly with Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry thoroughly. The legal and official regulations (e.g. the Ordinance on Biological Substances and the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances) must be observed.

Priming or Intermediate Coat: Fungitex-W, diluted to a max. of 10 % with water.

Finishing Coat: Fungitex-W, diluted to a max. of 5 % with water.

    Consumption

Approx. 140 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
The coating thickness of applied product significantly influences the fungicidal and bactericidal longterm effect, hence always apply Fungitex-W evenly and liberally. The consumption value specified above is a minimum value and should not be underrun.

    Application Conditions

Low Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+ 5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely dry and ready for stress after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.

    Note

Solvent-based primers must not be used in rooms where food is stored or manufactured. Therefore, only water-thinnable primers such as OptiGrund or Caparol-Haftgrund should be used in these rooms. These rooms must be ventilated for at least 3 days after Fungitex-W coating before further use.
Fungitex-W is a product that is equipped with special active substances against mould growth on the coating. This depot of active substances offers long-lasting but temporary protection, the duration of which depends on the object conditions, e.g. the moisture load and infection pressure. For this reason, permanent prevention of mould infestation cannot always be guaranteed by painting measures alone.

Mould marks on the surface depend on many factors and are therefore unavoidable (BFS data sheet 25). The use of phenol-based surface disinfectants can lead to yellowing of the surface.
