Field of Application
Fungitex-W is a special latex paint with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal and bactericidal attack. Particularly suitable for coating interior surfaces of industrially used damp locations, e.g. in breweries, slaughterhouses, creameries, hospitals, sanitation spheres and also suitable for living spaces.Fungitex-W is highly durable (wet scrub resistance Class 1) and hence suitable for the application on surfaces that need to be cleaned or treated with aqueous disinfectants. Due to these properties the product complies with German food hygiene regulation.
Fungitex-W is tested according to the guidelines of AgBB (German commission for the sanitary evaluation of building materials) regarding the suitability for use in interiors, even more than fulfilling the strict standards for volatile organic components. Hence the safe applicability for interiors is being confirmed.

Material Base / Vehicle
Synthetic resin dispersion/emulsion according to German standard DIN 55 945.Packaging/Package Size
- Standard Product: 12.5 litres. Airfix: 120 litres paint barrel
Colours
White.Fungitex-W can be tinted to a max. of 5 % with AmphiColor® (AVA) or CaparolColor colourants. If more than one bucket is manually tinted, all product must be thoroughly mixed before use in order to avoid colour differences. Quantities of 100 litres or more in individual colours may be ordered ready-tinted ex factory.
Check tinted product before applying to avoid colour deviation. Always use tinted paint of same batch, when applying on seamless surfaces.
Brilliant, intensive colours may have a lower opacity (hiding/covering power). It is therefore advisable to apply a first coat in a similar hiding pastel tint, based on white. Possibly a second finishing coat may be necessary.

Suitable Substrates
The substrates must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.Substrate Preparation
Interior Plasters: Mortar Group/Class PII (Lime-Cement Mortar), Class PIII (Cement Mortar) /Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 2 N/mm2: Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plaster with OptiGrund or CapaSol.Gypsum and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group/Class PIV /Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2: Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund. Sand/grind off sintered skin, remove dust and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Gypsum Building Boards / Wallboards: Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime highly compact, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund to promote adhesion.
Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards): Sand/grind off filling burrs. Soft gypsum areas (repairs) must be primed and strengthened with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund, OptiGrund or CapaSol. Boards containing water-soluble, discolouring substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund.
In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.
Concrete: Remove residues of parting agent (formwork oil residues) and loose chalking or sanding material.
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete / Cellular Concrete: Prime with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.
Facing Brickwork or Fair-Faced Sand-Lime Brick Masonry: No preliminary treatment required.
Sound/Stable Existing Coatings: Matt (flat), slightly absorbent coatings may be revised without a preliminary preparation. Roughen glossy surfaces and enamel coatings. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund.
Unstable Existing Coatings: Completely remove unstable coatings of enamel/varnish, emulsion paint or synthetic (organic) plaster. Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove unstable coatings of mineral paint by mechanical means and remove dust. Prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Coats of Glue-Bound Distemper: Wash off the coating to the stable substrate and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain Wallpapers, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
No preliminary treatment required.
Non-Adherent Wallpapers: Remove the wallpapers completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease: Clean nicotine, soot or fat/grease stained surfaces with tap water adding a fat-dissolving household detergent and allow to dry thoroughly. Remove dried-up water stains by dry brush cleaning. Then apply an insulating coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund.
Wood and Derived Timber Products: Coat with the ecologically compatible, water-dilutable (waterborne) Capacryl acrylic enamels or with Capacryl PU enamels.
Small Defects: After having completed the necessary preparations, repair with filler Caparol Akkordspachtel in accordance with our processing specification, and if necessary, prime subsequently.
Method of Application
Apply the product by paint brush or roller. Clean tools immediately after use with water.Surface Coating System
Pre-Treatment: Remove fungal growth mechanically by wet cleaning. Then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry well. Follow legal/local regulations, as e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances.Priming or Intermediate Coat: Fungitex-W, diluted to a max. of 10 % with tap (potable) water.
Finishing Coat: Fungitex-W, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water.
Consumption
Approx. 140 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site. The coating thickness of applied product significantly influences the fungicidal and bactericidal longterm effect, hence always apply Fungitex-W evenly and liberally. The consumption value specified above is a minimum value and should not be underrun.
Application Conditions
Low Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+ 5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Drying/Drying Time
At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely dry and ready for stress after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.Note
Solvent-based primers must not be applied in rooms where food is stored or produced. For these areas use waterborne primers OptiGrund or Caparol-Haftgrund.Ensure good ventilation during use and drying of Fungitex-W, for at least 3 days before any further use. Due to the use of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB in interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence proper ventilation must be provided during application and drying. Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
Fungitex-W contains a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) attack. The depot of agents offers a prolonged protection, but the fungicidal effect is limited by the special conditions on site, e.g. intensity of fungal attack and moisture. A durable protection cannot always be guaranteed by coats of paint.
Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and may be visible after drying. Germany: See BFS Data Sheet No. 25. Usage of phenol based surface disinfectants may lead to yellowing.
German Certificates
