    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars) /
Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1.5 N/mm2:

Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Gypsum and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group PIV / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2:
Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund. Sand/grind plasters with sintered skin, remove abrasive dust and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

    Gypsum Wallboards:
Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime highly compact, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund to enhance adhesion.

Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards / Drywalls):
Sand/grind off filler (mortar) burrs. Prime and strenghten soft gypsum areas (repair patches) with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund, OptiGrund or CapaSol.
Boards containing water-soluble, discolouring substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Germany: Follow BFS-Merkblatt (Data Sheet) No. 12.

    Concrete:
Remove all residues of separating agent (formwork oil residues) and chalking or sanding substances.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) / Cellular Concrete:
Prime with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.

Facing Brickwork and Fair-Faced Sand-Lime Brickwork:
    No preliminary treatment required.

    Sound/Stable Existing Coatings:
Matt, slightly absorbent coatings can be treated without a preliminary preparation. Roughen/sand glossy surfaces and enamel coatings. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund.

    Unstable Existing Coatings:
Carefully remove unstable coatings of enamel, emulsion paint or synthetic (organic) plaster.
Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove unstable mineral paint coatings by mechanical means and remove dust. Prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

    Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint):
Wash off the existing distemper very thoroughly, allow to dry and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
    No preliminary treatment required.

    Non-Adherent Wallpapers:
Remove completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste/glue and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot, or Fat/Grease:
Remove nicotine, soot, or fat/grease stains by washing with tap water adding a fat-dissolving household detergent, then allow the surface to dry well. Clean dried-up water spots by dry brushing-off. Apply an insulating coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund.

    Wood and Derived Timber Products:
Coat with water-dilutable (waterborne), ecologically compatible Capacryl acrylic enamels or Capacryl PU enamels.

    Small Defects:
After having completed the necessary preparations, repair with filler Caparol-Akkordspachtel in accordance with our application instructions, and if necessary, prime subsequently.

    Method of Application

Apply with paint brush or roller. Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

    Surface Coating System

    Pre-Treatment
Remove mould growth by wet cleaning. Then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry well.
Follow legal/local and official regulations, e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances.

    Priming or Intermediate Coat
Malerit-W, diluted to a max. of 10 % with tap (potable) water.

    Finishing Coat
Malerit-W, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water.

    Consumption

Min. 140 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
The thickness of applied paint coatings has a significant influence on the film-protective fungicidal and bactericidal effect. Thus apply coats of Malerit-W always evenly and liberally. The given consumption is a minimum value (do not under-run).

    Application Conditions

Low Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely dry and ready for stress after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.

    Note

Do not use solvent-based primers in rooms where food is stored or manufactured. In these areas use exclusively OptiGrund. Provide for good ventilation in rooms with Malerit-W paint coatings and allow to dry for at least 3 days before any further use.
If exposed to aqueous (water based) solutions of heavy metal salts, e.g. copper salts, a brownish discolouration will occur. Please request for special advice.
Use Indeko-W or Fungitex-W on indoor surfaces at risk of being mildew/mould attacked, especially in the industrial sector.
When using Tiefgrund TB in interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence proper ventilation must be provided during the application. Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
Malerit-W contains special active agents to counteract mildew/mould attack on the coating film.
The depot of agents offers a prolonged protection, but the fungicidal effect is limited by the special conditions on site, e.g. intensity of mildew attack and moisture. Therefore a durable protection cannot be guaranteed.

    Recoatability:
Malerit-W coatings are recoatable with emulsion and polymer resin paints or plasters. Oil- and oil alkyd resin paints are unsuitable, as the content of active agent inhibits the process of drying.

Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)

Keep Malerit-W and Capatox out of reach of children. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label (intestinal bacteria can be affected). Do not empty into drains, water courses or into the ground. Ensure good ventilation during use and drying. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the product. In case of contact with eyes or skin, immediately and thoroughly rinse with water. Clean utensils immediately after use with soap and water. Apply by brush or paint roller only. Use P2 dust filter for grinding.
