Malerit

Top class interior emulsion paint for the professional painter.
Free from preservatives.
  • LV Texte

    Field of Application

Top class paint for new and renovation coatings on all interior surfaces. Particularly applicable in highly sensitive living and working areas, due to odour-free application and drying.
Malerit has a very high degree of whiteness and due to a convincing hiding power in most cases only one coat is sufficient.
Malerit is easy to apply and fast-drying, allowing the usage of painted rooms without delay.

    Material Properties

    • Free from preservatives.
    • Emission minimised, solvent-free.
    • Water-dilutable, ecologically compatible, low odour.
    • Free of fogging-active substances.
    • Snow-white.
    • Diffusion-capable.
    • sd-value < 0.1 m

    • ColorExpress: 1.25 l, 2.5 l, 5 l, 7.5 l and 12.5 l

    Colours

    White, Off-White.

Malerit (White)  can be tinted with CaparolColor or AmphiColor® (AVA) colourants. If more than one bucket is manually tinted, all product must be thoroughly mixed before use in order to avoid colour differences.
Malerit is tintable to all current colour collections via the ColorExpress tinting & mixing machine system.
Check tinted product before applying to avoid colour differences. Always use tinted paint of same batch, when applying on seamless surfaces.
When applying colour shades of low opacity (hiding/covering power), e.g. red, orange or yellow, it is advisable to previously apply one priming coat of Malerit or Caparol-Haftgrund in a matching priming system colour, available via the ColorExpress technique. Possibly a second finishing coat may be necessary. Tinting may influence the preservative-free formulation adversely, thus this material property cannot be warranted for tinted paint.

    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars)
Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1.5 N/mm2: Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Gypsum and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group P IV /Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2: Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund. Sand/grind off sintered skin, remove sanding dust and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Gypsum Wallboards: Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime highly compact, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund to enhance adhesion.

Gypsum Plasterboards(Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards / Drywalls): Sand/grind off mortar burrs. Prime and strengthen soft gypsum areas (repairs) with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund, OptiGrund or use CapaSol.
Boards containing water-soluble, discolouring substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund fine. Germany: Follow BFS-Merkblatt (Data Sheet) No. 12.

Concrete: Remove all residues of separating agent (formwork oil residues) and chalking or sanding substances.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) / Cellular Concrete: Prime with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.

Facing Brickwork or Fair-Faced Sand-Lime Brick Masonry: No preliminary treatment required.

Sound/Stable Existing Coatings: Matt, slightly absorbent coatings can be treated without a preliminary preparation. Roughen/sand glossy surfaces and enamel coatings. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund.

Unstable Existing Coatings: Carefully remove unstable coatings of enamel, dispersion/emulsion paint or synthetic (organic) plaster. Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol.
Remove unstable mineral paint coatings by mechanical means and remove dust. Prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint): Wash off the existing coating very thoroughly, allow to dry and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain Wallpapers, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
    No preliminary treatment required.

Non-Adherent Wallpapers: Remove completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste/glue and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Mildewed Surfaces: Remove fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) by wet cleaning, then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry thoroughly. Prime according to the type and condition of the substrate. Apply a finishing coat of Indeko-W, Malerit-W or Fungitex-W on heavily mould affected surfaces, in compliance with legal/local and official regulations (follow e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).

Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease: Wash off nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains with tap water, adding a fat-dissolving household cleaning agent, then allow the surface to dry well. Clean dried-up water stains by dry brushing off. Apply an insulating priming coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Use Aqua-inn Nº1 for finishing coat on highly soiled surfaces.

Wood and Derived Timber Products: Coat with water-dilutable (waterborne), ecologically compatible Capacryl acrylic enamels or with Capacryl PU enamels.

Small Defects: After having completed the necessary preparations, repair small defects with Caparol-Akkordspachtel in accordance with our processing specification, and if necessary, prime subsequently.

    Method of Application

Apply with paint brush, roller or spray with airless equipment.

    Airless application:
    Spray angle: 50°
    Nozzle size: 0.021" - 0.026"
Spray gun pressure: 150 to 180 bar
Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

    Surface Coating System

One even, liberally applied coat of Malerit, undiluted or diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water.
Surfaces with colour contrast: One previously applied coat of product, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap water. Prime unevenly absorbent substrates with Caparol-Haftgrund.

    Consumption

Approx. 140 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

Low Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely cured and ready for stress after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher relative humidity extend the drying time.

    Note

To avoid lapping, the product should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption. Stir and sieve well before airless spray application.
When using Caparol-Tiefgrund TB in interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence proper ventilation must be provided during the application. Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
Advice: Use CapaSilan for areas with unfavourable lighting conditions (sided/grazing light). Mechanical loads/stress on matt paints in dark colour shades may produce bright-toned stripes as a product specific property. Thus, for intensively coloured surfaces subjected to mechanical loads, one additional top coat of PremiumColor (in matching colour) is advisable. See Technical Information PremiumColor.
Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and may be visible after drying.
Germany: See BFS-Merkblatt (Data Sheet) No. 25.

    German Certificates

The Fraunhofer Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institute (WKI) has audited the inoffensive application for interior use. The product is certified with German TÜV quality mark "pollutant-tested / supervised manufacturing process". German certificate is available on request.
