    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18 363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 2 N/mm2:
Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Gypsum Mortar and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group/Class PIV / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2:
Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund. Sand/grind sintered surfaces, remove sanding dust and apply one priming coat of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

    Gypsum Wallboards:
Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Prime highly compacted, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund to enhance bonding.

Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich Type Plaster Boards / Am.: Drywalls):
Sand/grind off any burrs. Prime and strengthen soft gypsum areas (repair patches) with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund, OptiGrund or CapaSol.
Boards containing water-soluble substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund. In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.

    Concrete:
Remove residues of separating agents and chalking or sanding substances.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) / Cellular Concrete:
Prime with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.

Fair Faced Brickwork and Sand-Lime Brick Masonry:
    No preliminary treatment required.

    Sound/Stable Existing Coatings:
Treat matt, slightly absorbent coatings without a preliminary preparation. Roughen/sand glossy surfaces and enamel coatings. Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund.

    Unstable Existing Coatings:
Remove unstable enamels and emulsion paints or synthetic resin-bound (organic) renders/plasters. Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Coats of Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint):
Wash off the existing distemper very thoroughly, allow to fully dry and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
    No preliminary treatment required.

    Non-Adherent Wallpapers:
Remove completely. Wash off all residues of wallpaper paste/glue and waste paper.
Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

    Mildewed Surfaces:
Remove fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) by wet cleaning, then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry thoroughly. Prime according to the type and condition of the substrate.
Apply a finishing coat of Indeko-W, Malerit-W or Fungitex-W on badly infested surfaces, in compliance with legal and official regulations (follow e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).

Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease:
Remove nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains by washing with tap water adding a fat-dissolving household detergent, then allow the substrate to dry thoroughly. Clean dried-up water stains by dry brushing. Apply an insulating coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Apply one finishing coat of Aqua-inn Nº 1 on highly soiled surfaces.Wood and Derived Timber Products:
Coat with water-dilutable, ecologically compatible Capacryl acrylic enamels or Capacryl PU enamels.

    Small Defects:
After having completed the necessary preparations, repair small defects with Caparol-Akkordspachtel in accordance with our application instructions, and if necessary, prime subsequently.

    Method of Application

Applicable with paint brush, paint roller or airless spray equipment.

    Airless application:
    Spray angle: 40° to 50°; Nozzle size: 0.021" to 0.026";
Spray pressure: 150 to 180 bar.
Stir well and sieve the paint before application.
Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

    Surface Coating System

One even, liberally applied coat of OptiFinish, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water. Surfaces with colour contrast: One previously applied priming of OptiFinish, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap water, if necessary. Prime unevenly absorbent substrates with Caparol-Haftgrund.

    Consumption

Approx. 150 ml/m2 per coat on a smooth substrate. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

    At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely dry and
ready for stress (loadable) after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the
    drying time.

    Note

To avoid lapping, the product should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption.
Due to the use of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB in the interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence
proper ventilation must be provided during application and drying.

    Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
For paint coatings on surfaces subjected to adverse lighting conditions (sidelight/grazing light) the product CapaSilan may also be used.
Mechanical stress (scratching) on surfaces in dark shades may produce noticeable bright-toned
stripes. For intensively coloured coatings on surfaces subjected to mechanical loads we recommend
the application of an additional protective coat of PremiumColor, tinted to match the OptiFinish coat in
    shade.
Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and may be visible after drying.
(In Germany: See BFS Data Sheet No. 25)
