Field of ApplicationWhite pigmented, special priming paint (wash primer) for covering priming coats on interior surfaces before applying finishing coats of synthetic emulsion paint or silicate emulsion paint. Suitable as an adhesion promoting priming coat on smooth, sound/stable substrates, e.g. gypsum plasterboards, concrete, as well as slightly absorbent gypsum plasters in mortar groups PIc - PIII, PIV and gypsum building boards.
Particularly suitable for plasterboards: The risk of spalling is noticeably minimised, when the primer is used on thin-layered gypsum filler coatings.
Suitable as grip promoting priming coat on smooth, slightly absorbent substrates before the application of all types of wallpapers.
- Emission-minimised, solvent-free, unplasticized.
- Easy to apply, water-dilutable, ecologically compatible, low odour.
- Diffusion-capable, sd value 0.03 m (tinting may cause variation).
- High adhesion to the substrate.
- Good hiding power (opacity).
- Grip promoting priming coat for silicate emulsion paints on substrates not allowing a proper silification.
Material Base / VehicleModified synthetic dispersion/emulsion according to German standard DIN 55945.
- Standard Product: 5 l, 12.5 l Airfix: 25 l hobbock, 120 l paint barrel
The wash primer can be tinted to a max. of 25 % with CaparolColor or AmphiColor® (AVA) colourants.
Haftgrund is tintable via the ColorExpress tinting & mixing machine system in bright shades of all current colour collections to luminosity/lightness index (LI) approx. 70.
Keep in a cool, but frost-free place.
DensityApprox. 1.7 g/cm3
Suitability according to Technical Information No. 606 Definition of Application Areas
|Interior 1||Interior 2||Interior 3||Exterior 1||Exterior 2|
|(–) inapplicable / (○) of limited suitability / (+) suitable|
Suitable SubstratesThe substrates must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may
prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, Part C, DIN 18 363, section 3.
Substrate PreparationSee Technical Information No. 650 for suitability of the primer on different substrates and their special pre-treatment.
Surface Coating SystemHaftgrund is usually applied undiluted, but can be adjusted to working consistency to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water or CapaSol, if necessary.
ConsumptionApprox. 150 - 200 ml/m2 on smooth surfaces. On roughly textured substrates correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
Application ConditionsLower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Drying/Drying TimeAt +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity recoatable after approx. 12 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.
Haftgrund is applicable by paint roller (14 - 16 mm piles), brush and spraying equipment.
Spray angle: 50°
Nozzle size: 0.021" – 0.025"
Spray pressure: 150 - 180 bar
Equip the spray gun with a filter (green, rough type), suitable for emulsion paints.
Stir well and sieve the priming paint before use.
Tool CleaningClean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.
NoteCompatibility with other Materials:
To retain the specific properties, the product must not be mixed with any other materials except CapaSol, CaparolColor or AmphiColor® (AVA) and ColorExpress colourants.
German CertificatesThe Fraunhofer Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institute (WKI) has audited the inoffensive application for interior use. The material is certified with German TÜV quality mark "pollutant-tested /supervised manufacturing process”. German test certificate is available on request.
Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)Keep out of reach of children. Avoid release to the environment. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water.
Further information: See Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
DisposalMaterials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
In Germany: Only completely empty containers should be handed in for recycling. Dispose containers with residues of liquid product via waste collection point accepting old paints and enamels. Dispose dried/hardened product residues as construction site/demolition/municipal or domestic waste.
EU limit value for the VOC contentof this product (category A/a): max. 30 g/l (2010). This product contains < 1 g/l VOC.
