Field of Application

CapaSol is an unpigmented, acrylic-based special primer for exterior and interior use, with high penetration for use on solid mineral substrates which absorb strongly or unevenly in order to level their absorbency.
CapaSol is ideally suited for treating porous, absorbent substrates such as renders/plasters, gypsum plasterboards (drywalls), unfired bricks, cellular concrete/AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete) in interiors and also for priming fairfaced sandlime brickwork.
Prime compact, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB or Caparol-Haftgrund, depending on the substrate's absorbency.

Material Properties

  • Low odour.
  • Deeply penetrating to the substrate.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Consolidates/strenghtens the substrate.

Material Base / Vehicle

Modified aqueous (water based) synthetic resin dispersion/emulsion.

Packaging/Package Size

10 litres and 20 litres

Storage

Keep in a cool, but frost-free place.

Density

Approx. 1.0 g/cm3

Suitability according to Technical Information No. 606 Definition of Application Areas

Interior 1Interior 2Interior 3Exterior 1Exterior 2

(–) inapplicable / (○) of limited suitability / (+) suitable

Suitable Substrates

The mineral substrates must be clean, solid, dry, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

Substrate Preparation

Follow Technical Information No. 650 for the suitability of CapaSol on different substrates and their required pre-treatment.

Thinning

The product is dilutable up to 2:1 with tap (potable) water, if necessary.

Surface Coating System

Apply undiluted or dilute with 1 part of tap (potable) water, depending on the substrate's absorbency.
Apply liberally/thoroughly and work in well with surface brush or whitewash brush, where necessary repeatedly wet-on-wet, up to complete saturation of the substrate.
On strongly/highly absorbent substrates CapaSol is dilutable to a max. of 10 % with tap (potable) water. Dilute with 2 parts of tap water for use on interior sufaces of low absorbency.
Roller or spray application is possible on surfaces which only need a normal priming coat to improve adhesion for following coats of paint. The primer must not form a closed, shiny film.
Clean tools immediately after use with water.

Consumption

Approx. 50 - 200 ml/m2 depending on application method, degree of dilution and substrate absorbency. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Drying/Drying Time

At + 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity recoatable after approx. 12 hours.
Lower temperatures extend the drying time.

Tools

Best possible strengthening effect is obtained when the product is thoroughly brush applied.
Roller or high-pressure spray application are less suitable, but the product is applicable with airless spraying equipment.

Airless Application:
Spray angle: 60°
Nozzle size: 0.029"
Spraying pressure: 50 bar

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

Note

Do not apply CapaSol on horizontal surfaces exposed to rain/water or moisture.

Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)

Keep out of reach from children. Ensure good ventilation during use and drying. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the product. In case of contact with eyes or skin, immediately and thoroughly rinse with water. Do not allow product to enter drains, waterways or soil. Clean utensils immediately after use with soap and water. Do not breathe spray dust.
