    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Interior Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1 CS II:
Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Gypsum Plasters and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters (Mortar Groups/Classes PIV, PV) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2:
Sand/grind off sintered skin and remove sanding dust. Prime with Tiefgrund TB.

    Gypsum Wallboards:
Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Tiefgrund TB.

Gypsum Plasterboards / Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards (Am. Drywalls):
Sand down filler burrs and remove dust. Prime and strengthen soft gypsum areas (repairs) with Tiefgrund TB. Apply one priming coat of Filtergrund grob (coarse) on boards containing water-soluble, discolouring substances that leave marks. In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.

Remove all parting agent (formwork oil residues) and chalking, sanding substances.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) / Cellular Concrete:
Prime with a 1:3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water. Smoothen the surface with filler Akkordspachtel.

    Hardboards/Fibreboards, Chipboards/Particleboards and Plywood Boards:
Sand the surface of waxed boards very thoroughly and remove all sanding dust. Apply one priming coat of Filtergrund grob (coarse).

    Stable Existing Coatings:
Matt (flat), slightly absorbent coatings can directly be coated. Roughen/sand glossy surfaces and enamel coatings.

    Unstable Existing Coatings:
Remove all unstable coatings of enamel and dispersion/emulsion paint or synthetic (organic) plaster. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent surfaces with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove unstable coats of mineral paint by mechanical means and remove all sanding dust. Apply one priming coat of Tiefgrund TB.

    Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint):
Wash off the existing distemper very thoroughly, allow to dry and prime with Tiefgrund TB.

Remove existing wallpapers completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste/glue and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Tiefgrund TB.

    Mildewed/Mouldy Surfaces:
Eliminate moisture cause. Remove fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) attack by wet cleaning, then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry thoroughly. Prime according to substrate requirements. On surfaces with still existing mold infestation risk final coating with Indeko-W, Malerit-W or Fungitex-W. Follow legal and official regulations (e.g. Ordinance on Biocidal Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).

Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease:
Remove nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains by washing with tap water, adding a fat-dissolving household cleaning agent, then allow the surface to dry thoroughly. Clean dried-up water spots by dry brushing-off. Apply one insulating prime coat of Filtergrund grob (coarse).

    Small Defects:
After having completed the necessary preparations, repair with Akkordspachtel (filler) in accordance with our processing specification, and if necessary, prime subsequently.

    Method of Application

Rustikputz types are applicable with smoothing trowel or spraying equipment. Smoothing trowel application gives a scraped-finish texture (K Finish) and spray application produces a sprayed-finish texture.

    Trowel application:
Rustikputz, diluted to a max. of 2 % with tap (potable) water. Apply evenly to the grain size/thickness using stainless steel trowel and flatten it immediately with a plastic trowel.

    Spray application:
Apply with suitable spray gun/equipment for large-area application.
Nozzle size: 6 - 8 mm   Pressure: Depending on machine type.
Air flow rate of compressor: 500 l per minute at 3 bar.
Adjust the consistency for spray application to a max. of 5 % with tap water and dilute correspondingly less for tinted product. Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

    Surface Coating System

    Priming and/or Intermediate Coat:
Apply primer Putzgrund 610, tinted with CaparolColor or AmphiColor® (AVA) colourants to match the finishing coat in shade.

    Finishing Coat:
Apply Rustikputz by smoothing trowel or spraying equipment.

    • Rustikputz K15 for interior use: Approx. 2.1 - 2.5 kg/m2
      Spray application: Approx. 1.5 - 1.8 kg/m2
    • Rustikputz K20 for interior use: Approx. 3.1 - 3.4 kg/m2
      Spray application: Approx. 1.6 - 2.0 kg/m2
    • Rustikputz K30 for interior use: Approx. 3.4 - 3.8 kg/m2
      Spray application: Approx. 1.7 - 2.1 kg/m2

Consumption depends on the desired texture. Stir up the product thoroughly before use, thus avoiding rise in consumption. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    • Putzgrund 610: Approx. 250 - 350 g/m2 on smooth substrates.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry after approx. 24 hours. Thoroughly dry and ready for stress after 2 - 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher relative humidity extend the drying time.

Being natural products, the quartz granules used in the product may occasionally cause slight colour variation in the finishing coat. Only use product of same batch on seamless surfaces or, when product of different batches must be applied, mix the entire quantity needed in advance.
To avoid lapping, the product should be applied wet-on-wet without interruption.
Due to the use of Tiefgrund TB in interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence proper ventilation must be provided during application and drying.
    Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
Reworking gypsum filling compounds may cause swelling, blistering and flaking due to long lasting moisture exposure. Provide for quick drying by sufficient ventilation and temperature.
In Germany: Follow Data Sheet No. 2 "Verspachtelung von Gipsplatten / Trowel Application on Plasterboards" issued by German Association of Gypsum and Plasterboard Industry.
Spalling may occur when gypsum fillers  are applied in thin layers. This risk can be minimised, if the product is used in combination with primer Putzgrund 610.
