Field of Application
For adhesion promoting/enhancing priming coats on existing paint coatings, enamel coats, wood, zinc/galvanised surfaces, unplasticized (rigid) PVC, aluminium, copper and many other problematical substrates before applying acrylic or alkyd enamels. Note: Do not use alkyd enamels on zinc/galvanised surfaces. Particularly suitable for nearly mist-free spray application, when using the spraying equipment as follows:Wagner XVLP FinishControl 3500/5000/5500
Graco Capacryl NAST HVLP Spray + Edge 2 NAST
Titan Focus 700
Also suitable for the spray application on coated metal rails of acoustic ceilings (grid ceilings) in combination with the RasterFiXX fleece (acoustic assortment).
Explanation: NAST /German term: Nebelarme Spritz-Technologie = Spray technology with low spray mist (dust/fog) formation

Suitable Substrates
Wood, derived timber products, zinc/galvanised substrates, aluminium, copper, unplasticized (rigid) PVC, stable existing coatings. Also suitable on coated metal rails of acoustic ceilings (grid ceilings). Do not apply on anodised aluminium. The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, dry, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion.
Maximum permissible moisture content (WMC) in dimensionally stable wood: 13 %, in limited dimensionally stable wood and wooden parts of unstable shape: 15 %.
Substrate Preparation
Wooden Parts:Sand the surface in fibre direction, clean thoroughly, remove all seeping wood contents, e.g. resins and resin galls and cut sharp edges (see BFS Data Sheet No. 18).
Zinc, Unplasticized/Rigid PVC:
Wash with light ammonia solution using a sanding pad as per BFS Data Sheets Nos. 5 and 22.
Aluminium, Copper:
Clean with destined detergents, e.g. Gescha Multi-Star, then sand with a plastic abrasive fleece (see BFS Data Sheet No. 6).
Existing Paint Coatings:
Sand the surface and/or treat with alkaline solution. Remove unstable existing coatings.
Coated metal rails of grid ceilings:
Clean with destined detergents, e.g. Gescha Multi-Star.
Method of Application
Capacryl Haftprimer NAST has been developed for use with the below mentioned special equipment to ensure a nearly mist-free spray application. The product cannot be applied via paint brush or roller. Please note:
Capacryl Haftprimer NAST is adjusted for use with the mentioned spray equipment and Caparol NAST-Frontend/Capacryl NAST HVLP Spray. Only this combination of material and equipment enable a nearly mist-free spray application.
Spray Technique:
Adjustment for coating surfaces: "Flachstrahl" (flat jet). Spray slowly lengthwise with an overlap of min. 50 % and in a spray distance of 15 cm, applying wet-on-wet.
Do not apply cross-coats!
Allow to dry and apply a second coat in the same manner, if necessary.
Guidelines for Spray Application:

1) | Always apply Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund on wood containing water-soluble, discolouring substances (2x on knots). |
2) | Prepare and prime defects according to substrate requirements. |
3) | Colour shades of low opacity (e.g. yellow/red/orange pigmented) may require an additional coat. |
Note: Adhesion must always be tested in advance for powder coatings, coil coatings and other critical substrates by trials (coating a test area on site). |
Consumption
Approx. 130 - 160 ml/m2 per coat.Consumption is a guide value and may vary, depending on substrate requirements. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
