Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all materials that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

Substrate Preparation

New Renders/Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PIc (Hydraulic Lime Plaster),
PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars):
PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars): New renders/plasters must be left untreated for a sufficiently long time, minimum 7 day at 20°C and 65 % rel. humidity. Remove sintered layers with Histolith® Fluat.

Untreated Existing Renders/Plasters and Mineral Paints:
Carefully clean the surface. Remove all layers of low adherence.

Render/Plaster Repairs:

Repair mortars should match the existing render/plaster in type and texture and must be allowed to set and harden. Use fluosilicate solution Histolith® Fluat and rinse thoroughly.

Surfaces with Fungal or Algal Attack:
Wash off the fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) or algal attack and allow surfaces to dry. Then use Capatox (algae remover) and allow to dry. Prior consultation with our technical assistance is needed to achieve the correct surface coating system.

Brickwork / Brick Masonry:
Only brickwork made of absorbent bricks is suitable. Carefully clean the surface. Remove all layers of low adherence. Touch up damaged mortar joints.

Method of Application

Apply Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ with paint brushes and rub very thoroughly to ensure good penetration to the substrate.

Thinning

Thin Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ in ratio of 2 : 1 to 1 : 1 with tap (potable) water, depending on substrate absorbency.

Consumption

Approx. 100–200 ml/m2 depending on substrate absorbency. The exact consumption is best established by a trial coating (test area) on site.

Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity recoatable after 12 hours.

Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

Note

Do not apply on sun heated substrates, during high temperatures, strong wind, extremely high relative humidity, fog or rain, or imminent rain and frost. Night frost must be avoided. Protect the facade with suitable scaffolding-nets or tarpaulins, if necessary.

Protective Measures:
The areas adjoining the surface to be painted must be carefully masked.

Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)

If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Contains 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3- one. May produce an allergic reaction. Due to its potassium silicate content, the reaction of silicate based coatings is highly alkaline. Hence protect skin and eyes from paint.

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local, regional, national and international authorities.

EU limit value for the VOC content

of this product (category A/a): 30 g/l (2010). This product contains < 1 g/l VOC.
