Field of Application
Surfacer for smoothing interior wall surfaces. For versatile use in the field of renovation (old buildings and built heritage conservation). Also highly suitable in the field of ecological housing (ecohouses), due to favourable structural-physical and biological characteristics.Material Properties
- Nobel white, dull matt lime surface.
- Highly water vapour permeable, sd-value = 0.01 m for 1 mm of layer thickness.
- Sorption-capable, provides a pleasant room climate.
- Highly alkaline, ph-value = 13 (for thoroughly mixed product).
- Reaction to fire: Non-combustible, Class A2-s1,d0 as per DIN EN 13501-1.
- Prevents fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) growth due to natural alkalinity.
- No preservatives.
- Solvent-free.
- Suited for allergy sufferers.
- Easy/elegant to apply and to smoothen.

Suitable Substrates
Suitable as smoothing filler/surfacer for mineral plasters and for Histolith® Trass-Sanierputz. Furthermore applicable on concrete, concrete blocks, AAC/cellular concrete, gypsum plasterboards (sandwich-type plaster boards), wallboards, synthetic (organic) plasters and stable existing coatings.Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be solid, sound/stable, dry, clean and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Rendering must be fully hardened/cured and the surface has to be roughened. Clean the substrate very thoroughly.Prime and strengthen the surface of sanding plasters with Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ.
Precoat all gypsum plasters, plasterboards/wallboards/sheets of drywall and stable existing coatings with Histolith® Strukturgrund.
Preparation of Material
Agitate the product with a paddle mixer to working consistency, free of lumps (gradually adding tap/potable water).Water demand: approx. 8.5 to 9.0 l per bag
Workability: approx. 120 minutes
Method of Application
Apply mixed material evenly and without lapping, then smoothen the surface avoiding burrs.Allow the surface to set (harden), then pre-wet the substrate and apply a second, thin-layered coat. After a short waiting time smoothen the surface using a Venetian trowel. Alternatively: Felt in wet condition or allow to dry and sand the surface.
Embedding of reinforcement fabric: Apply mixed product using a notched trowel (notching: 6x6 mm). Apply Capatect IDS Armierungsgewebe with an overlap of 10 cm and firmly press on. Directly thereafter apply a coat of mixed product, wet-on-wet, in order to ensure proper/full embedding of reinforcement fabric.
Allow the surface to set (harden), then pre-wet the substrate and apply a second, thin-layered coat. After a short waiting time smoothen the surface using a Venetian trowel or felt in wet condition or allow to dry and sand the surface.
Layer/coating thickness: 0.5 - 10 mm
Surface Coating System
Histolith® Kalkspachtel brillant is recoatable with Histolith® whitewash/lime paints and Histolith® silicate paints. A previously applied priming coat is advisable, using Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 with tap (potable) water.Consumption
Approx. 1.2 kg/m2 for 1 mm of layer/coating thickness.Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Hardening:+ 5 °C for mixed product, substrate and ambient air.
Drying/Drying Time
Allow to dry (set) for min. 3 days before applying the following coat.Tool Cleaning
Immediately after use with water.Note
Do not apply on surfaces with extremely high moisture stress, caused by e.g. direct water loads or splashing water.Minor colour variations may occur due to the use of natural fillers. Always use material of same batch on seamless surfaces, if they remain untreated (without any coat of paint).
Fine blistering may occur on slightly absorbent substrates. Air cells/bubbles are removable (after a short flash off time) by repeated smoothing.
Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)
