Filtergrund grob

Ecologically compatible, insulating prime coat for interior use. Insulating action on nicotine, water, soot and fat/grease stains before applying textured coatings.
LV Texte

Field of Application

Pigmented, dispersion-/emulsion-based coating material for insulation and embedding of nicotine, water, soot and fat/grease stains before applying textured finishing coatings.

Filtergrund grob (coarse-grained) is adjusted white-transparent and is able to embed discolouring or penetrating contamination and stains, remaining visibly, but insoluble. In addition the product provides for a grip promoting surface and high adhesion of the following coatings. Therefore the material is used for priming/grip coat before applying finishing textured coats of Caparol synthetic (organic) plaster, stone chips loaded Capa-stone, Capadecor VarioPutz, Capafloc Vario, Hardfloc wall covering and many other coating materials.

Material Properties

  • Water-dilutable, ecologically compatible.
  • High insulating effect.
  • Sealer as per  VOB.
  • Able to bind/embed soilings and discolourations (remaining visibly).
  • Diffusion-capable.
  • High adhesive strength (grip).
  • Easy to apply.

Material Base / Vehicle

Synthetic resin dispersion/emulsion according to German standard DIN 55945.

Packaging/Package Size

12.5 litres

Colours

White-transparent.

Can be tinted to a max. of 5 % with CaparolColor or AmphiColor® (AVA) colourants without diminishing the insulating effect.

Storage

Keep in a cool, but frost-free place.

Density

Approx. 1.2 g/cm3

Suitability according to Technical Information No. 606 Definition of Application Areas

Suitable Substrates

The substrates must be dry, clean (free of soiling), sound/stable and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces with dried-up water spots: Clean by dry brushing-off.
Surfaces soiled with nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains: Clean with tap water adding a fat-dissolving detergent, then allow to dry well.
Prime highly absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove non-adherent/unstable coatings and prepare the surface correspondingly.

Method of Application

Paint roller, brush or spray application. Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

Surface Coating System

Apply one even, undiluted priming coat of Filtergrund grob (coarse-grained) and allow to dry well for at least 12 hours.
Subsequent treatment on the thoroughly applied priming coat: Use water-dilutable Caparol-Strukturputz (textured synthetic/organic plaster), Capa-stone, Capadecor VarioPutz or Capafloc Vario, always in accordance with the processing specification.

Consumption

Approx. 200 - 250 ml/m2 per coat on smooth surfaces. On roughly textured substrates correspondingly more.

Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+16° C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Only if temperature is high enough to provide for fast drying, the functionality of primer is warranted.
If temperature is lower, the drying of priming coat has to be supported using hot-air unit to achieve a good insulating effect.

Drying/Drying Time

At +20° C and 65 % relative humidity recoatable after approx. 12 hours. If temperature is lower a longer waiting time has to be observed, before the following coat can be applied.

Note

Unsuitable for use in rooms with extremely high air moisture (damp locations), e.g. bakeries and butcheries. Rooms where foodstuffs are produced, stored or sold, must be well ventilated (after having finished the application of priming coat) for min. 3 days before reuse.

Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)

Keep out of reach from children. Ensure good ventilation during use and drying. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the product. In case of contact with eyes or skin, immediately and thoroughly rinse with water. Do not allow product to enter drains, waterways or soil. Clean utensils immediately after use with soap and water. Do not breathe spray dust.

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
In Germany: Only completely empty containers should be handed in for recycling. Dispose containers
with residues of liquid product via waste collection point accepting old paints and enamels. Dispose
dried/hardened product residues as construction site/demolition/municipal or domestic waste.
