    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, and clean and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18 363, section 3. Depending on the substrate and its condition, a suitable priming coat must be applied prior to filler/ surfacer application. Glossy, stable existing coatings must be roughened beforehand.

    Substrate Preparation

Renders according to DIN EN 998-1 class CS II - CS IV / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Solid, normally absorbent and even renders can be coated without primer coat. Prime slightly sanding, absorbent renders with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111. Prime more sanding renders with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Gypsum plasters according to DIN EN 13279-1 / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: One priming coat with OptiSilan Tiefgrund. Sand gypsum plaster with sintered skin, remove dust, prime with OptiSilan Tiefgrund.

Gypsum boards/gypsum planks: On absorbent boards, apply a primer coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund. On highly compacted, smooth boards, apply an adhesion-promoting primer coat with Putzgrund 610. (For panelling, see also plasterboard).

Gypsum boards (plasterboard): Sand off filler burrs. Prime sanded gypsum filler areas and gypsum plasterboard with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111. Prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund if the absorption behaviour is strong. For boards with water-soluble, discolouring ingredients, prime with Caparol-Filtergrund grob. Observe BFS data sheet no. 12, part 2.

Concrete: Remove any release agent residues and flouring, sanding substances. Prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111.

    Porous concrete:
A primer coat of Capaplex, diluted 1 : 3 with water.

    Sand-lime masonry: Coat without pre-treatment.

Load-bearing coatings: Recoat matt, slightly absorbent coatings directly. Roughen glossy surfaces and paint coatings. A primer coat with Putzgrund 610.

Non-bearing coatings: Remove non-absorbent lacquer and emulsion paints or synthetic resin plaster coatings. Prime coarsely porous, sanding or absorbent surfaces with OptiSilan TiefGrund. Remove non-bearing mineral paint coatings mechanically and remove dust from the surfaces. Apply one priming coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint): Wash off thoroughly. Apply a primer coat with Dupa-Putzfestiger. Alternatively, remove mechanically, rinse and prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Woodchip, relief or embossed wallpapers made of paper and sample wallpapers: Remove completely. Wash off paste and waste residue. Prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Mould-infested surfaces: Remove mould or fungal infestation by wet cleaning. Wash surfaces thoroughly with Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry thoroughly.

Surfaces with nicotine, water, soot or grease stains: Wash off nicotine stains and soot or grease stains with water with the addition of grease-dissolving cleaning agents and allow to dry thoroughly. Clean dried water stains by dry brushing. Apply a sealing primer coat with Caparol-Filtergrund grob (observe Technical Information No. 845).

Wood and wood-based materials: A primer coat with Capacryl Holz-Isogrund. On panels coated with melamine resin in the factory, apply a primer coat with Capacryl adhesion primer. The joint areas/panel joints must not be coated without cracks. A decoupling layer with thin plasterboard is recommended here.

Chips, joints and defects: Fill the recess with Füllspachtel P.

Note Q2/Q3 Filling / thin gypsum layers < 0.5 mm: When using gypsum-containing, hydraulically setting levelling compounds in quality level Q2/Q3, a transparent, water-based primer is recommended. For this, we refer to the Maler&Lackierer leaflet No. 2 -9/2020 "Adhesion problems of coatings on filled gypsum (cardboard) boards" of the Bundesverband Farbe, Gestaltung, Bautenschutz and the Bundesausschuss Farbe und Sachwertschutz. As an alternative to gypsum-based Q3 filling, filling with pasty filling compounds has proven successful.

    Method of Application

Apply by hand: Stir well before application and apply with a stainless steel smoothing trowel.

Suitable spraying equipment: The filler can be applied with plaster delivery devices and powerful airless devices. The conveying distance of the product depends on the performance of the airless equipment and can be obtained from the equipment manufacturer. Remove all filters from airless guns. Airless spray guns with a higher flow rate recommended by the manufacturer should be used for levelling compounds. Depending on the performance capacity of the airless device, temperatures below +10 °C may restrict delivery due to slight changes in the viscosity of the filler. A material temperature of +10 °C must be ensured for these devices. Stirring with an agitator is recommended for buckets.

Spray application: After appropriate consistency adjustment, Caparol-Akkordspachtel fein can also be applied by spraying (max. 5 % addition of water).

Work sequence: Supply the equipment with levelling compound. We recommend using a material hopper. Full-surface, saturated spray application with filler, undiluted, and immediate levelling with a suitable steel trowel. The filler can be sanded after drying. Sanding meshes such as Abranet from Mirka or GranatNet from Festool with a grain size of 120 enable more effective work performance.

Suitable spraying equipment: The filler can be applied with plaster delivery equipment and powerful airless equipment. Airless spray guns recommended by the respective manufacturer should be used for levelling compounds. These guns have a higher flow rate and make it much easier to apply the levelling compound; for buckets, stirring with a stirrer is recommended.

Spray application with sprinkling: The coating and sprinkling of wall and ceiling surfaces made of
e.g. prefabricated concrete components, smooth-set in-situ concrete and aerated concrete as well as plasterboards and plasterboards using the thin plaster method with powerful spraying equipment is efficient and economical.

Work sequence: Connect the sprayer to the container using the connection tap available from us and a corresponding connection hose. Full-surface, saturated spray application with filler, undiluted and immediate levelling with a suitable steel trowel.

After drying, the filler can be wet-felted or dry-sanded. Once the levelled surface has dried thoroughly, the filler can be applied in a fine to coarse texture.
The texture can be varied depending on the degree of dilution and the nozzle width used. The sprinkle application can be left untreated on ceiling surfaces. On substrates that have not yet reached their levelling moisture content, partial light-dark fluctuations may be noticeable after the speckle application. A levelling coat is recommended here.

Work team and performance: A spraying crew consists of a team of 2-3 workers. One member of the team applies the material in a uniform layer thickness with the spraying device, 2 employees pull off the applied material evenly and then smooth the surface.

Special application instructions for levelling and sprinkling:
In larger rooms, the ceiling must first be smoothed before the wall surfaces can be sprayed. In this case, however, the upper part of the wall surfaces (the so-called head) should also be sprayed and smoothed up to a height that can be reached from the floor. The lower part of the wall surfaces is then sprayed and also smoothed.
If only the ceiling surface is to be treated, it is advisable to spray a border away from the wall surfaces first and then spray the surface. After smoothing and slight drying, smooth all corners with a wet radiator brush. Remove bubbles after slight drying by smoothing again, repeat if necessary. Fill existing nests by hand.
After the levelling compound has dried thoroughly, block rust penetrations with a suitable anti-corrosion primer, e.g. Capalac AquaMulti Primer, by stippling. Then apply a coat of paint.

Inserting reinforcing fleece: Observe the information in the Technical Information for Capaver AkkordVlies G45 SP.

    Surface Coating System

    Rework the levelled surface with:

    Paint / plastic compounds (plasters):
Smoothed surfaces can be coated with all suitable Caparol dispersion and latex paints or Capacryl acrylic lacquers after thorough drying. Before further treatment with Sylitol® Innenfarben, Sylitol® Putzen, a priming coat with Caparol-Haftgrund EG, CapaSol Konzentrat in appropriate dilution or CapaSol RapidGrund is recommended. Priming with Putzgrund 610 is required for subsequent dispersion plasters.

Glass and cellulose polyester wall coverings for subsequent coating: Smoothed surfaces can be coated with glass fabric and cellulose polyester wall coverings once they are thoroughly dry. This requires a priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund EG.

Surface-finished, highly diffusion-inhibiting or diffusion-tight wall coverings: At least Akkordspachtel KF must be used. The technical specifications of the wall covering manufacturer must also be observed.

    Consumption

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

Approx. 12- 48 hours, depending on building moisture, temperature and layer thickness.

    Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with clean water.

    Note

Do not apply Caparol-Akkordspachtel fein(fine) in damp locations/moist rooms. Use Caparol-Akkordspachtel fein (fine) instead to achieve exceedingly smooth surfaces. Minor colour differences may occur due to the use of natural fillers. When spray applied surfaces (using spatter technique) remain unpainted, it is advisable to use product from the same batch for filling and spray application.

For spray application on walls in spatter technique, it is advisable to recoat with Caparol emulsion paint to obtain a higher resistance.

Reworking gypsum filling compounds may lead to swelling, blistering and flaking due to long lasting moisture exposure. Provide for quick drying by sufficient ventilation and temperature. In Germany: Follow Data Sheet No. 2 "Verspachtelung von Gipsplatten" (Trowel Application on Plasterboards) issued by the German Association of Gypsum and Plasterboard Industry.
Fine blistering (pinholing) may appear on compact, low absorbent substrates. These fine air pockets are removable after a short flash off time by repeated smoothing. The proper timing for re-smoothing is depending on temperature and air humidity/moisture on site. When air pockets reappear after re-smoothing, the smoothing process has been effected too soon and must be repeated. To minimize this effect, a pigmented primer coat with Caparol-Haftgrund is required.

On coarse, roughly textured substrates an additional smoothing process may be necessary to achieve an even surface.
