    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, and clean and free from all substances that may prevent adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18 363, section 3.

Depending on the substrate and its condition, a suitable priming coat must be applied prior to filler/surfacer application. Follow Technical Information No. 650. Glossy, stable existing coatings must be roughened beforehand.

    Method of Application

    Manual Smoothing:
Stir well before use and apply with a stainless steel trowel.

    Spray Application (Spatter Technique):
On prefabricated concrete building units, smooth formed in-situ concrete, AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete)/cellular concrete or gypsum wallboards and plasterboards it is efficient to apply the material with a high-performance spray gun by thin coat plastering method.

    Working Procedure:
Spray application of undiluted Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF „plus", liberally applied to the full surface. Smoothen the surface directly with suitable stainless steel trowel. After drying, Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF „plus” can be smoothened with a felt board in wet condition or by dry sanding.
After thorough drying the smooth surface may be spattered with Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF „plus” according to the desired texture (finely textured up to roughly textured).
The texture may be varied by the nozzle size and degree of dilution.
The spatter technique is advisable for ceilings which would remain without any further treatment.

Special Advice for Surface Smoothing and Spraying (Spatter Technique):
In large rooms the application should start by spraying and smoothing the ceiling and the upper part of walls down to a height easily reached from the floor, before spraying and smoothing the lower part of walls. After smoothing, when the material begins to set, corners should be touched up with a wet radiator brush. Allow to dry and touch up remaining air pockets and blisters. If rusty spots reappear on the surface, then they must be insulated by stippling the thoroughly dry surface with suitable anticorrosive primer, e.g. Capalac AllGrund.

On highly smooth concrete ceilings, free of burrs and shrinkage holes, a covering coat of material can be applied in spattering technique without previous smoothing.

    Teamwork and Output:
A team may comprise of 2 to 3 persons: 1 man handling the spray gun, applying an even coat; 1 man treating the surface evenly and working with smoothing tools; 1 man feeding the spray gun.

    Covering Device:
For covering window and door openings the use of wood-frames (made to measure), covered with thermoplastic foil, is well-proven. Cover floors with stable covering material.

    Suitable Equipment and Compressors:
Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF „plus” is applied with plaster conveyor or high-performance airless equipment. Remove all filters, if airless guns are used.
    Nozzle size: 0.035” to 0.043”
Pressure: Approx. 150 to 180 bar
Spray guns with a higher discharge, recommended by the relative manufacturer, can be used as airless guns for surfacers (fillers/spattling compounds).
Lower material temperature limit for optimum airless application: + 10° C during application.

    Surface Coating System

Always prime with Caparol-Haftgrund before applying coats of interior paint Sylitol Bio-Innenfarbe. Surfaces smoothed with Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF "plus" may be coated after thorough drying without priming, using suitable Caparol emulsion and latex paints or Capacryl acrylic enamels.

Finishing plastic coatings, textile and glass fabrics wall coverings require priming with Caparol-Haftgrund. Synthetic (organic) plasters require a previously applied priming coat of Putzgrund 610.

    Spray application:
Approx. 1500 g/m2 per mm of coating thickness.

    Spatter technique:
Approx. 400 - 700 g/m2, depending on the desired texture.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5° C for substrate and ambient air.
Temperature of product during application must be > + 10° C.

    Drying/Drying Time

Approx. 12 - 48 hours, depending on building moisture, temperature and coating thickness.

    Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with clean water.

Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF "plus" is unsuitable for damp locations. Slight colour differences may occur due to the use of natural fillers. If the surface will remain unpainted after spray application (spatter technique), then it is suggested to use material of same batch for filling and spray application.

Abrasion can occur if using plaster conveyor equipment, particularly when new conveyor screws and tubes are used. Please follow the instructions given by the relative manufacturers.

For spray application on wall areas in spatter technique, recoating with Caparol emulsion paints is advisable to obtain a higher resistance.

Fine blistering may appear on compact, low absorbent substrates. This can be removed by repeated smoothing after having allowed to flash off for a short time. The proper timing for re-smoothing depends on temperature and air moisture on site. When small blisters recur, even after re-smoothing, the smoothing process which obviously had been made too early must be repeated.

On roughly textured substrates an additional smoothing process may be necessary.

Reworking gypsum filling compounds may lead to swelling, blistering and flaking due to long lasting moisture exposure. Provide for quick drying by sufficient ventilation and temperature. In Germany: Follow Data Sheet No. 2 "Verspachtelung von Gipsplatten" (Trowel Application on Plasterboards) issued by the German Association of Gypsum and Plasterboard Industry.

    German Certificates
