    Substrate Preparation

Renders according to DIN EN 998-1 class CS II - CS IV / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Solid, normally absorbent and even renders can be coated without primer coat. Prime slightly sanding, absorbent renders with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111. Prime more sanding renders with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Gypsum plasters according to DIN EN 13279-1 / compressive strength min. 2 N/mm2: Sand and remove dust from gypsum plasters with sintered skin, prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111.

Gypsum boards/gypsum planks: Priming coat with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Gypsum boards (plasterboard): Sand off filler burrs. Prime sanded gypsum filler areas and the gypsum boards with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111. In case of stronger absorption, prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund. For boards with water-soluble, discolouring ingredients, prime with Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Observe BFS Data Sheet No. 12, Part 2.

Concrete: Remove any release agent residues and chalking, sanding substances. Prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund, CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol RapidGrund 111.

Sand-lime masonry: Dry brush off existing salt efflorescence. Prime with CapaSol RapidGrund or Sylitol® Rapidgrund 111. In case of stronger absorption, prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Load-bearing coatings: Recoat matt, slightly absorbent coatings directly. Roughen glossy surfaces and paint coatings.

Non-bearing coatings: Remove non-stable varnish and dispersion paints or synthetic resin plaster coatings. Prime coarsely porous, sanding or absorbent surfaces with OptiSilan TiefGrund. Remove non-bearing mineral paint coatings mechanically and remove dust from the surfaces. Apply one priming coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint): Wash off the existing distemper very thoroughly, allow to dry and prime with Dupa-Putzfestiger. Alternatively, remove mechanically, rinse and prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Woodchip, relief or embossed wallpapers made of paper and sample wallpapers: Coat without pre-treatment. For relief and embossed wallpapers made of paper as well as sample wallpapers, apply a trial coat. Foamed wallpapers may cause intermediate reactions (stickiness, odour) when coated.

Removed wallpaper: Wash off paste and waste paper residues. Apply one priming coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Mould-infested surfaces: Remove mould by wet cleaning. Wash surfaces with Capatox and allow to dry thoroughly. Observe the legal and official regulations (e.g. the Biological Substances Ordinance and the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances). Increased protection against renewed infestation can be achieved with the products Malerit-W, Indeko-W and Fungitex-W.

Surfaces with nicotine, water, soot or grease stains: Wash off nicotine stains as well as soot or grease stains with water, adding a grease-dissolving cleaning agent, and allow to dry thoroughly. Clean dried water stains by brushing dry. Apply a barrier priming coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund fein (see Technical Information No. 384) orCaparol-Filtergrund grob (see Technical Information No. 845).

Wood and wood-based materials: Apply one priming coat of Capacryl Holz-Isogrund. On boards factory-coated with melamine resin, apply one priming coat of Capacryl-Haftprimer. The joint areas/panel joints are not to be finished crack-free. Here, for higher visual requirements, a decoupling layer with thin gypsum boards with appropriate filling is recommended.

Old lime filler techniques: Remove sintered layer on the surface by sanding. In case of negative wetting test with water on sanded surface, the entire lime filler layer must be removed and the substrate must be rebuilt accordingly. In case of positive wetting test with water on sanded surface, prime with OptiSilan TiefGrund.

Chips, joints and defects: Fill the recess with Füllspachtel P.

Note Q2/Q3 Filling / thin gypsum layers < 0.5 mm: When using gypsum-containing, hydraulically setting levelling compounds in quality level Q2/Q3, a transparent, water-based primer is recommended. For this, we refer to the Maler&Lackierer leaflet No. 2 -9/2020 "Adhesion problems of coatings on filled gypsum (cardboard) boards" of the Bundesverband Farbe, Gestaltung, Bautenschutz and the Bundesausschuss Farbe und Sachwertschutz. As an alternative to gypsum-based Q3 filling, filling with pasty filling compounds has proven successful.

    Method of Application

    Manual Smoothing:
Stir well before use and apply with a stainless steel trowel.

    Suitable spraying equipment:
The filler can be applied with plaster conveyors and with powerful airless equipment. The conveying distance of the product depends on the performance of the airless equipment and must be obtained from the equipment manufacturers of the equipment. Remove all filters from airless guns. As an airless gun, spray guns with a higher flow rate recommended by the respective manufacturer should be used for fillers. Depending on the capacity of the airless unit, it is possible that at temperatures below +10 °C due to slight changes in the viscosity of the filler. Restrictions in conveying may occur. For these devices, a material temperature of +10 °C must be ensured.

    Spray application:

Coating is efficient and economical, especially when used in conjunction with high-performance spray equipment of wall and ceiling surfaces.

    Working procedure:

Supply the unit with putty. We recommend using a material hopper to be used. Full-surface, saturated spraying with filler, undiluted, and immediate smoothing with a suitable steel trowel. The filler can be sanded after thorough drying. Sanding grids such as Abranet from Mirka or GranatNet from Festool with a grit size of 120 enable a more effective working performance.

    Suitable spraying equipment:

The filler can be applied with plaster conveyors and with powerful airless equipment. As airless gun, spray guns recommended by the respective manufacturer should be used. These guns have a higher flow rate and make it considerably easier to apply the filler. In the case of buckets, stirring with a stirrer is recommended.

    Spray application with mottling:
The coating and mottling of wall and ceiling surfaces is rational and economical of e.g. precast concrete elements, smoothly formed in-situ concrete, and aerated concrete as well as gypsum building boards and gypsum boards in the thin plaster method with powerful spraying equipment.

    Working procedure:

Connecting the sprayer to the container with the connection tap available from us for this purpose and an appropriate connection hose. Full-surface, saturated spray application with spatula, undiluted and immediate flat smoothing with a suitable steel trowel.
After drying, the filler can be felt by wetting or dry sanded. After good drying the levelled surface, a mottling application can be made in fine to coarse structure. The texture can be varied depending on the degree of dilution and related nozzle width. The mottle application can be left untreated on ceiling surfaces. For substrates that have not yet reached their moisture content, partial light/dark variations may be perceptible after speckle application. Dark variations may be noticeable. In this case, a leveling coat is recommended.

    Work team and performance:

A spray crew consists of a team of 2-3 craftsmen. One of the team applies the material with the sprayer in a constant layer thickness, 2 workers pull off the applied material evenly and then smooth the surface. material evenly and then smooth the surface.

Special processing instructions for flat filling and mottling:

For larger rooms, first smooth the ceiling before spraying the wall surfaces. In In this case, however, the upper part of the wall surfaces (the so-called head) should be sprayed and from the floor should also be sprayed and smoothed. Then the lower part of the wall surfaces is sprayed and smoothed as well.
If only the ceiling surface is to be processed, it is advisable to first spray an edge from the wall surfaces and then spray the surface. All corners should be smoothed and slightly after smoothing and slight drying with a wet radiator brush. Remove bubbles after slight drying by smoothing again, repeat if necessary. Existing nests by hand.

After good drying of the filler, rust penetrations with a suitable anti-corrosion primer, e.g. Capalac AquaMulti Pimer, applied by stippling. Subsequently, apply a coat of paint.

    Insertion of reinforcing fleece:

Observe the specifications in the Technical Information on Capaver AkkordVlies G45 SP.

    Surface Coating System

    Recoatability:

    Paint / plastic masses (plasters):
After thorough drying, smoothed surfaces can be coated with all suitable Caparol dispersion and latex paints or Capacryl acrylic paints, latex paints or Capacryl acrylic paints. Before further treatment with Sylitol® interior paints, Sylitol® renders, a priming coat with Caparol Haftgrund EG, CapaSol Konzentrat in appropriate dilution or CapaSol RapidGrund is recommended.  For subsequent dispersion renders, a priming coat with Putzgrund 610 is required.

Glas- cellulose polyester wall coverings for subsequent coating:
Smoothed surfaces can be recoated with glass fabric or cellulose polyester wall coverings after thorough drying. For this purpose, a priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund EG is required.

    Surface-finished, strongly diffusion-blocking or diffusion-tight wall coverings:

At least Akkordspachtel KF must be used. In addition, the technical data of the wall covering manufacturer must also be observed.

    Consumption

    Spray application:
Approx. 1600 g/m2 per mm of coating thickness.

    Spatter technique:
Approx. 400 - 700 g/m2, depending on the desired texture.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5° C for substrate and ambient air.
Temperature of product during application must be > + 10° C.

    Drying/Drying Time

Approx. 12 - 48 hours, depending on building moisture, temperature and coating thickness.

    Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with clean water.

    Note

Caparol-Akkordspachtel SF "plus" is unsuitable for damp locations. Slight colour differences may occur due to the use of natural fillers. If the surface will remain unpainted after spray application (spatter technique), then it is suggested to use material of same batch for filling and spray application.

Abrasion can occur if using plaster conveyor equipment, particularly when new conveyor screws and tubes are used. Please follow the instructions given by the relative manufacturers.

For spray application on wall areas in spatter technique, recoating with Caparol emulsion paints is advisable to obtain a higher resistance.

Fine blistering may appear on compact, low absorbent substrates. This can be removed by repeated smoothing after having allowed to flash off for a short time. The proper timing for re-smoothing depends on temperature and air moisture on site. When small blisters recur, even after re-smoothing, the smoothing process which obviously had been made too early must be repeated.

On roughly textured substrates an additional smoothing process may be necessary.

Reworking gypsum filling compounds may lead to swelling, blistering and flaking due to long lasting moisture exposure. Provide for quick drying by sufficient ventilation and temperature. In Germany: Follow Data Sheet No. 2 "Verspachtelung von Gipsplatten" (Trowel Application on Plasterboards) issued by the German Association of Gypsum and Plasterboard Industry.
