Suitable Substrates

New mineral substrates, sound, adherent existing renders/plasters and sound existing paints or coatings.

Substrate Preparation

Substrates must be clean, dry, adherent, sound, and free from all material that may prevent good adhesion, e.g. formwork release oil. Remove burrs.
Remove damaged, peeling paints, coatings and textured renders/plasters as far as possible.
Remove all render/plaster coatings without sufficient adhesion to the substrate (hollow spots) and adjust repaired areas to the surrounding surface (flush with surface).
Clean absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces thoroughly until a solid substrate is achieved and prime with Capatect-Konzentrat 111 (primer concentrate).

Consumption

1 m2/m2 plus offcut

Application Conditions

During application and drying phase temperatures should not fall below +5 °C or rise over +30 °C for material, substrate and ambient air.

Bonding of Insulation Boards

Apply adhesive material, as per the ETIC system, thoroughly to the reverse side of thermal insulating boards by using the "Bulb-Point-Method": A bulb of material, approx. 5 cm wide, surrounds the board and 3 blobs (palm of the hand sized) are to be applied in the middle of the board (≥ 40% of surface should have contact with adhesive material.)
Pre-treatment: To guarantee proper bonding, the adhesive mortar has to be applied in this area first as a thin film by trowel and then sharply scratched off.
Adjust the thickness of applied material (base height) to the tolerances of the substrate.
Irregularities up to ± 1 cm can be equalised by this application method.

Place insulation boards thoroughly from bottom to top, touching each other
- pressing together - and press on. The rows of insulation boards must be applied 50% staggered one beneath the other.

Avoid the penetration of adhesive material into butt joints (board sides) – such material has to be removed.

Follow the alignment and vertical lines for installation.

Spaces that may occur should be filled with insulation strips or where required with Capatect-Füllschaum (Filling Foam) B1. Take care to avoid offset at the joints.

For transition-joints between different kinds of substrate materials or facing concrete (cladding) joints, the insulating boards should cover ("bridge”) the joints run min. ≥ 10 cm wide on both sides. This should be realised with a sound adhesive bedding.
Further information concerning bonding of insulation boards: See Technical Information Nos. 185, 186 M or 190, 133.

For guidelines on dowelling of thermal insulation boards: See National regulations on separate Data Sheets.

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities.
Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.

To avoid wastage, the boards should be cut carefully and reused wherever possible. However wastage can be disposed of as per European Waste Code (EWC) 17 06 04 for insulation materials.
