Substrate Preparation

All substrates must be load-bearing, even, clean and free of adhesion-reducing residues.
For external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), glue the profiles onto the suitable and dry base coat.
In the case of high thermal insulation masonry, bond the profiles to the suitable and dry reinforcement layer on the base coat.
Check concrete and untreated renders for load-bearing capacity, remove release agent residues and loose parts.
Prime absorbent substrates accordingly.
The evenness of the surface of the substrate should not exceed 2 mm according to DIN 18202 in relation to the the maximum edge length of the decorative element to be applied.

Application Conditions

During application and in the drying phase, the ambient and substrate temperatures should not be below +5 °C and above 30 °C respectively.
Reference is made to DIN 18345, item 3.1.3 (unsuitable climatic conditions).

Drying/Drying Time

approx. 24 hours (at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity) for the façade profile bonded with Capatect Capapor Profilkleber 121/109. At lower temperatures and higher humidity, these times are extended.

Tool Cleaning

Immediately after use with water.

Installation, Fixing, Cut

Preliminary works:
An installation plan must be made prior to application. When planning the installation, the course of the joints of the façade profiles must be coordinated with the connecting building components, e.g. windows or window sills, so that no constraints occur.

Primer:
Prime the front sides of the profiles and the cut surfaces in the area of the butt joints and connection joints (joint flanks) with "CapaSol" Concentrate diluted 1:2 with water before jointing.

Practical tip: Prime the joint flanks already before adhesion.

Adhesion:
Remove dust and adhesion-reducing residues from decorative and façade profiles, adjust length if necessary. A chop or mitre saw is recommended for cutting to size.
Apply "Capatect Capapor Profilkleber 121/109" over the entire surface with a toothed trowel (toothing 8-10 mm) to the substrate and to the back of the façade profile (floating-buttering method). Float in the façade profiles with light pressure and press on firmly, secure against slipping if necessary.
The surrounding joint of the façade profiles must be sealed with "Capatect Capapor Profilkleber 121/109". Seal the adhesive joints by smoothing the profile adhesive with a damp brush.
Make the upper horizontal connection joint to the substrate with a cove.
Clean base coats soiled with profile adhesive with water immediately after application, otherwise adhesion problems of mineral finishing coats may occur.

Connections:
Joints to other building components, e.g. windows, must be made with backfill cord and "Capatect Fugenmasse MS". The joint width must be dimensioned in accordance with DIN 18540 to compensate for any stress that may occur.

Painting and reworking:
Minor damage to the profiles can be repaired with "Capatect Capapor Profilspachtel 121/110".
Break the edges of the façade profiles to be coated with a residual piece or sanding block.
Remove dust and adhesion-reducing residues.
After sufficient drying of joint and adhesive, coat profiles with at least 2 coats of suitable facade paint, e.g. "Caparol ThermoSan NQG", "Sylitol® NQG" or "AmphiSilan" facade paint. For dark colours with a LRV Light reflactance value < 20, a TSR value of ≥ 25 % must be observed.

Horizontal profile surfaces:
Horizontal profile surfaces with a projection above 20 mm must be designed with a slope of more than 5° or 8% leading away from the façade. Depending on the profile geometry and thickness, drip edges are to be provided if possible (see "Application").

Weather protection:
Up to 100 mm projection, coat profiles on the horizontal surface with at least 2 layers as described above.
Up to 150 mm projection, "Kobau Elastic Fabric 10/10" is to be cut to the size of the horizontal surface minus 5 mm edge distance and inserted into the coating as an intermediate layer.
For projections over 150 mm, covers, e.g. sheet metal covers, must be provided in accordance with the "Fachregeln für Metallarbeiten im Dachdeckerhandwerk"(Specialist rules for metalwork in the roofing craft), as with traditional façade profiles exposed to the weather.
Alternatively, the horizontal surfaces can be coated with a filler of "Capatect SockelFlex Carbon" with fabric insert as "Kobau Elastic-Gewebe 10/10" and "Disbon 404" (at least two coats). This area must be primed in advance with "CapaSol" Concentrate diluted 1:2 with water.

Horizontally installed façade profiles without additional sheet metal covers have an increased tendency to become soiled. The functionality of the weather protection must be ensured permanently.

Plinth area:
"Capatect Capapor Schlusssteine und Konsolen" require special measures for moisture protection in splash water areas. A minimum distance of 10 mm must be provided between the profile end or the profile soffit and the ground surface. "Capatect Capapor Schlusssteine und Konsolen" must be protected up to at least 50 mm above ground level with additional moisture protection made of "Capatect SockelFlex Carbon" or "Capatect SockelFlex". This area must be primed in advance with "CapaSol" Concentrate diluted 1:2 with water. In splash water areas up to 300 mm above ground level or adjacent horizontal building parts, the "Capatect Capapor Schlusssteine und Konsolen" should be impregnated with "Disboxan 450 Fassadenschutz" before paint application.

Application

Capapor decorative and façade profiles are essentially mineral. With regard to the surface finish, the regulations for mineral renders therefore apply.
In case of deviating applications, request additional information.
The possibility of special designs must be clarified in advance. The graphically prepared special profiles must be checked and approved by the customer before the order is accepted.

Possible applications:
Weight

max. 40 kg
per element
per m2 adhesive surface

For extended applications, please request advice.

Thinner and larger-format key blocks and corbels generally place higher demands on the evenness of the laying surface in order to prevent the risk of breakage and to ensure full-surface laying. To increase the laying safety, on-site laying tests are recommended in advance.

Joints
Profile joints are usually visually recognisable. Fine hairline cracks or shrinkage cracks in the joint area of the decorative and façade profiles do not represent a technically functional defect and are therefore not objectionable.

Loads
Capatect Capapor façade profiles are designed to take dead loads, wind loads and snow loads. Additional loads, e.g. from foot traffic on the façade profiles, are not permissible.

Fire behaviour
Depending on the area of application and the coating system used, a different fire behaviour classification may be possible. The given classification for reaction to fire is only valid in combination with the coating facade paint "Caparol Sylitol NQG".

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

The information in the current safety data sheet applies.

Disposal

Cutting residues must be prepared in accordance with EWC 170904 (mixed construction and demolition waste). Respect national and regional rules and regulations.

Risk and Transportation Markings

Do not throw; transport on a flat surface; separate several profiles by cardboard etc. to prevent damage to the coating, protect edges especially.
