Suitable Substrates
The substrate must be solid, sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.Substrate Preparation
Exterior Substrates
New Renders/Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PI (Lime Plasters),
PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1 N/mm2:
New renders/plasters must be left untreated for a sufficiently long time, minimum one week. Remove sintered layers/skin with Histolith® Fluat.
Unpainted Existing Renders/Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PI, PII and PIII / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1 N/mm2
and Existing Coats of Mineral Paint:
Clean the surface thoroughly and remove all layers of low adherence. Apply one priming coat of
Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, thinned in ratio of 2:1 to 1:1 with tap (potable) water, depending on substrate absorbency.
Render/Plaster Repairs:
Repair mortars should match the existing render/plaster in type and texture and must be allowed to set and harden thoroughly before being painted. Treat all repairs with Histolith® Fluat and rinse with tap water.
Natural Stones:
Only absorbent natural stones are suitable substrates. Always check for compatibility and apply a trial coating. Clean the surface thoroughly and remove all layers of low adherence.
Note: Natural stones with water-soluble substances of content may show efflorescence on the paint
coat and visible stains may occur.
Surfaces with Fungal or Algal Attack:
Wash off the fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) or algal attack. Allow the surface to dry, then use
Capatox (algae remover) and allow to dry. Prior consultation with our technical
assistance is needed to obtain the correct surface coating system.
Interior Substrates
New Renders/Plasters (Mortar Groups/Classes Plc, PII and PIII) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1 N/mm2:
Leave to stand for 2-4 weeks. Remove sintered skin with Histolith® Fluat.
Gypsum Renders/Plasters in Mortar Group/Class PIV / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 2 N/mm2:
On sound/stable, solid renders/plasters apply one priming coat of Histolith® Mineralin.
Strengthen soft gypsum renders/plasters with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ.
Sand/grind gypsum plasters with sintered skin, then remove sanding dust and apply one priming coat of Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ.
In each case: Allow to dry well, then apply one intermediate coat of Histolith® Mineralin.
Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards):
Sand down filling burrs. Prime with Histolith® Quarzgrund. Strengthen soft filled gypsum patches with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ. Apply one priming coat of Histolith® Mineralin. For boards with water-soluble content that leaves marks, apply one priming coat of Caparol Aqua-Sperrgrund.
In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.
Gypsum Wallboards/Building Boards:
Apply one priming coat of Histolith® Mineralin.
Concrete:
Remove all residues of parting agents.
Sound/Stable Existing Coats of Matt (Flat) Emulsion Paint:
Clean the surface thoroughly. Apply one priming coat of Histolith® Mineralin.
Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint):
Wash off (remove) thoroughly to achieve a stable substrate. Prime with Dupa-Putzfestiger.
Mildewed/Mouldy Surfaces:
Wash off the fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) attack. Apply Capatox on the fully dry surface, then allow to dry again. Prior consultation with our technical assistance is needed to obtain the correct surface coating system.
Method of Application
Apply the product with paint brushes, stippling brush, natural sponge or cloth, depending on the desired effect.Surface Coating System
The product can only be applied in tinted form.Translucent Glaze/Scumble Coats on Natural Stone:
Priming coat, intermediate and finishing coat of product, adjusted to a max. of 10 % with Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 with tap water.
Decorative Semi-Transparent Glaze Coats on Facades:
Prime highly/strongly or unevenly absorbent substrates or sanding mineral surfaces with Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 to 1:1 with tap (potable) water, depending on substrate absorbency.
Apply one covering priming or intermediate coat of Histolith® Mineralin, in white or bright-toned, matching the subsequent glaze coat in shade.
Apply 1-3 finishing coats of tinted Histolith® Antik-Lasur, depending on the desired glaze effect. Adjust the transparency with max. 10 % of Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 with tap water.
Decorative Glaze Coats on Interior Wall Areas:
Prime highly/strongly or unevenly absorbent substrates or sanding mineral surfaces with Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 to 1:1 with tap (potable) water, depending on substrate absorbency.
Apply one covering priming or intermediate coat of Histolith® Mineralin in white or bright-toned, matching the subsequent glaze coat in shade.
Apply 1-3 finishing coats of tinted Histolith® Antik-Lasur, depending on the desired glaze effect. Adjust the transparency with max. 10 % of Histolith® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 with tap water.
Consumption
Approx. 80–100 ml/m2 for one coat on an even/smooth surface. On rough-textured surfaces correspondingly more. The exact consumption is best established by a trial coating (test area) on site.Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Drying/Drying Time
At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 12 hours. Rain resistant after approx. 24 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.Tool Cleaning
Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.Note
To avoid lapping, the product should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption. Do not apply onhorizontal or inclined surfaces exposed to rain or moisture.
Do not apply on sun heated substrates, during high temperatures, strong wind, extremely high relative
humidity, fog or rain, or imminent rain and frost. Night frost must be avoided.
Protect the facade with suitable scaffolding-nets or tarpaulins, if necessary.
Protective Measures:
The areas adjoining the surface to be painted should be carefully masked, in particular glass,
ceramics, enamel/varnish coatings, clinkers, natural stone, metals and wood.
