Field of Application
Suitable for coloured paint coatings on interior walls and ceilings, subjected to higher mechanical loads. Serves as a similarly tinted protective finish for all matt (flat), intensively tinted interior Caparol paints. PremiumColor produces a noble matt surface with special colour brilliance and enhances the writing resistance (finish), if the material is tinted in strong colours.Material Properties
- Water-dilutable, ecologically compatible, low odour.
- Very easy to touch up.
- Emission-minimised and solvent-free.
- Enhances the writing resistance (finish).
- Highly tough surface.
- Intensive colour brilliance.
- Easy to apply.
- Resistant to aqueous disinfectants and detergents.

Colours
PremiumColor is only available as basis material and has to be tinted in the desired colour shade via the ColorExpress tinting & mixing machine system (can only be applied in tinted form).Quantities of 100 litres or more in individual colours may be ordered ready-tinted ex works.
Check tinted product before applying to avoid colour deviation. Always use tinted paint of same batch, when applying on seamless surfaces.
If colour shades with a lower opacity (hiding/covering power) are used, e.g. red, orange or yellow, it is advisable to apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund, tinted in a matching priming system colour, available via ColorExpress.

Suitable Substrates
The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.Substrate Preparation
Interior Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars)
Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 2 N/mm2:
Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.
Gypsum Mortar and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group/Class PIV / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2:
Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund. Sand/grind off sintered skin, remove sanding dust and apply one priming coat of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Gypsum Wallboards:
Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime highly compact, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund to improve bonding.
Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards / Am.: Drywalls):
Sand/grind off any filler burrs. Prime and strengthen soft gypsum areas (repairs with insufficient solidity) with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund, OptiGrund or CapaSol.
Boards containing water-soluble substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund. In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.
Concrete:
Remove all residues of separating agent (formwork oil residues) and chalking or sanding substances.
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) / Cellular Concrete:
Prime with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.
Facing Brickwork and Fair-Faced Sand-Lime Brickwork:
No preliminary treatment required.
Sound/Stable Existing Coatings:
Treat matt (flat), slightly absorbent coatings without a preliminary preparation. Prime highly absorbent paint coatings with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Roughen/sand glossy surfaces and enamel coatings. Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund.
Unstable Existing Coatings:
Remove unstable enamels and emulsion paints or synthetic resin-bound (organic) plasters. Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove unstable (non-adherent) coats of mineral paint by mechanical means and remove all dust. Prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Coats of Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint):
Wash off the existing distemper very thoroughly, allow to fully dry and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund.
Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
Coat without any preliminary treatment.
Non-Adherent Wallpapers:
Remove completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste/glue and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.
Mildewed Surfaces:
Remove the cause of high substrate moisture, then remove all fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) by wet cleaning. Use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry well. Prime according to the type and condition of the substrate. Apply a finishing coat of Indeko-W, Malerit-W or Fungitex-W on surfaces with an ongoing risk of fungal attack, in compliance with legal and official regulations (follow e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).
Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease:
Remove nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains by washing with tap water adding a fat-dissolving household detergent, then allow the substrate to dry thoroughly. Clean dried-up water stains by dry brushing-off. Apply an insulating coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Apply one finishing coat of Aqua-inn Nº 1 on highly soiled surfaces.
Wood and Derived Timber Products:
Coat with water-dilutable, ecologically compatible Capacryl acrylic enamels or Capacryl PU enamels.
Small Defects:
After having completed the necessary preparations, repair small defects with Caparol-Akkordspachtel in accordance with our application instructions, and if necessary, prime subsequently.
Method of Application
Apply with paint brush or roller. Clean tools immediately after use with water.Surface Coating System
Apply two finishing coats of PremiumColor, undiluted. For painting large-scale surfaces the product can be diluted to a max. of 3 % with tap water. If colour shades with a lower opacity are used, it is advisable to apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund, tinted in a matching priming system colour.Application:
Stir up well before application. Use medium pile rollers (14 to 18 mm piles) for roller application on smooth surfaces, avoiding accumulation of material in border areas of rollers, e.g. Rotanyl 18 mm. Apply PremiumColor evenly and roll again in one direction.
Consumption
Approx. 125 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+5 °C for product, ambient air and substrate.
Drying/Drying Time
At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity (RH) surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely dry after approx. 3 days. Fully cured and loadable after 14 days. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.Note
To avoid lapping, the paint should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption.Do not blend the material with other products to maintain the special properties.
Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and may be visible after drying.
(In Germany: See BFS Data Sheet No. 25)
The use of self-adhesive stencils, wall stickers/labels and adhesive tapes on PremiumColor surfaces may lead to low adhesion. Check for compatibility, if necessary.
