    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars), PIII (Cement Mortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1.5 N/mm2:
Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Gypsum and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group PIV / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2: Priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund or AmphiSilan-Grundierfarbe. Sand/grind off  sintered skin, remove sanding dust and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Gypsum Building Boards / Wallboards: Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime highly compact, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund or AmphiSilan-Grundierfarbe to promote bonding.

Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards): Sand/grind off mortar burrs. Prime and strengthen soft gypsum areas (repairs) with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund, AmphiSilan-Grundierfarbe, OptiGrund or use CapaSol. Boards containing water-soluble, discolouring substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund.
In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.

Concrete: Remove all releasing agent (formwork oil residues) and chalking or sanding substances.

AAC / Cellular Concrete: Prime autoclaved aerated concrete with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.

Facing Brickwork and Fair-Faced Sand-Lime Brick Masonry:
    No preliminary treatment required.

Sound/Stable Existing Coatings: Matt, slightly absorbent coatings require no pre-treatment. Roughen glossy/shiny surfaces and enamel coatings. Prime with Caparol-Haftgrund or AmphiSilan-Grundierfarbe.

Unstable Existing Coatings: Remove unstable coatings of enamel, emulsion paint or synthetic (organic) plaster. Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund or AmphiSilan-Grundierfarbe. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove unstable (non-adherent) mineral paint coatings by mechanical means and remove dust. Prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Coats of Glue-Bound Distemper: Wash off the coating to the stable substrate and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain Wallpapers, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
    No preliminary treatment required.

Non-Adherent Wallpapers: Remove the wallpapers completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste (glue) and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Mildewed Surfaces: Remove fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) by wet cleaning. Then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry well. Prime according to the type and condition of the substrate. Apply a finishing coat of Indeko-W, Malerit-W or Fungitex-W on strongly mould infested surfaces, in compliance with legal/local and official regulations (follow e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).

Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease: Remove nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains by washing with water, adding a fat-dissolving household detergent, then allow the surface to dry well. Clean dried-up water stains by dry brushing-off. Apply one insulating prime-coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Apply one finishing coat of Aqua-inn Nº1 on highly polluted surfaces.

Wood and Derived Timber Products: Coat with waterborne, ecologically compatible Capacryl acrylic enamels or with Capadur Color.

Small Defects: After having completed the necessary preparations, repair small defects with Caparol-Akkordspachtel in accordance with our specifications, and if necessary, prime subsequently.

    Method of Application

Only to be applied with special Nespray airless equipment.

    Spray Application:
For surfaces: Spray angle 30°/nozzle: special Nespray double nozzle 0.016" - 0.019”; for trimming: spray angle 20° / special Nespray nozzle 0.013”.
If a distance of 30 cm to the substrate cannot be guaranteed, a nozzle extension from Wagner Inc should be used. The material temperature is automatically adjusted by the Nespray airless unit. Shut down pressure (closed spray gun) is regulated on device in the blue marked area. Spraying pressure (opened spray gun) is then displayed in the green marked area.
Clean tools immediately after use with water. Other coating materials, especially primers, can also be applied with the Nespray airless unit, but by the use of other products a mist-free application cannot be guaranteed. Apply such products with corresponding precautions.

    Surface Coating System

Special Nespri-TEC spraying method: One liberally and evenly applied coat of Nespri® FiXX using the special Nespray Airless unit, then subsequently rolled very evenly with a standard short pile paint roller (12 - 16 mm piles).
One previously applied priming coat is required for high-contrast, highly or unevenly absorbent surfaces.

    Consumption

Approx. 175 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

    At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 – 6 hours.
Completely dry and ready for stress after approx. 3 days.
Lower temperatures and higher relative humidity extend the drying time.

    Note

To avoid lapping, the material should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption.
Due to the use of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB in interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence proper ventilation must be provided during application and drying.
    Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and may be visible after drying.
(In Germany: See BFS Data Sheet No. 25)

    Compatibility with other Paint Materials:
Do not mix Nespri® FiXX with other materials than AmphiColor® (AVA) or CaparolColor colourants.
