Suitable Substrates
The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18 363, section 3.Substrate Preparation
The type of substrate preparation depends on the existing substrate and its condition. Hence follow the recommendations given in the corresponding Technical Information.Translucent/semi-transparent paints are highly influenced by colour, absorbency and condition of the existing substrate, furthermore by the film thickness of glaze coats and degree of dilution, tools used and individual application technique of the craftsman. Therefore a trial application (coating a test area) on site is essential.
Method of Application
Suitable tools for applying DecoLasur Glossy: Paint brushes (do not use brand new brushes), stippling brushes, natural sponges or clothes. Tool selection depends on the desired glazing technique.Surface Coating System
Intermediate Coat:The intermediate coat for glazing techniques must always be effected very thoroughly as an evenly applied, hiding coat (all lapping or roller marks will remain visible).
Suitable products are Capadecor DecoGrundor MultiStruktur. Matt (flat) interior emulsion paints are of limited suitability, due to their absorbency (noticeable lapping may occur) and therefore must be checked for compatibilty before use. Always use a brush for finishing treatment to avoid the forming of noticeable roller marks on the applied intermediate coat. The surface of finished intermediate coats must always be free of colour contrasts and evenly absorbent.
Finishing Coat:
Apply 1 to 3 glaze (translucent/scumbling) coats of DecoLasur Glänzend (Glossy), tinted via ColorExpress or with CaparolColor colourants. DecoLasur Glossy can be adjusted to application viscosity to a max. of 20 % with tap (potable) water.
Coatings on FantasticFleece:
Follow Technical Information No. 891, if glass fleeces FantasticFleece are to be coated. Dilute the product with exactly 15 % of tap water to obtain sufficient open time.
The strong substrate absorbency leads to a flat gloss level for the first coat. A second or third coat of untinted DecoLasur Glossy should be brush-applied (as described before) to enhance the gloss level.
For use on FantasticFleece the product can only be tinted via ColorExpress (collection CD FantasticFleece). Do not use any other colourants.
If an additional nacreous/pearl lustre effect is desired: Add 1 - 5 % of effect pigments according to the desired effect (see Technical Information No. 816). Stir the nacreous pigments thoroughly into the product to ensure a homogeneous mixture.
Consumption
Approx. 80 – 200 ml/m2 for one coat, depending on the absorbency and surface roughness/texture. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.On FantasticFleece: Approx. 140 - 180 ml/m2 per coat. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.
Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+5 °C for product, ambient air and substrate.
Drying/Drying Time
Depending on the glazing technique used apply wet-on-wet or allow a drying time of max. 12 hours between the applications. Cool and moist weather conditions extend the drying time correspondingly.Tool Cleaning
Immediately after use with water, adding a detergent (washing-up liquid), if necessary.Note
Do not apply on horizontal surfaces subject to moisture/water loads. Brush application is recommended for applying priming and intermediate coats to avoid noticeable roller marks. Please Note (Status as at Date of Publication)
