    Suitable Substrates

    • Mineral and organically bound renders
    • Mineral and organically bound substrates in ETICS

    Substrate Preparation

The substrate must be stable, even, clean, dry, frost-free and free of adhesion-reducing residues. If necessary, the load-bearing capacity can be ensured by using suitable primers.
Substrates, especially undercoat renders, must be evenly dried to avoid colour deviations in the finishing render.
Before applying the decorative render, we recommend priming with Putzgrund 610, coloured if necessary, to improve the application and accelerate the film formation of the finishing render, especially on fresh mineral base coats.

Thin-layer finishing renders with grain sizes < 3 mm may require special measures, e.g. priming, levelling filler, painting.

The following information is provided by way of example and is not exhaustive. The coating is applied after any necessary substrate preparation. It is recommended to create a test area to determine coating compatibility.

    Protective measures
Carefully cover glass, ceramics, clinker brick, natural stone, painted, glazed, anodised and surfaces to be protected. Immediately remove splashes with water.

Cleaning of contaminated substrates with / without load-bearing layers:
Clean contaminated areas, remove less firm layers using a suitable method. Observe legal requirements. When treated with water, allow sufficient drying times.
    Possible methods (not exhaustive):

    • Dry cleaning: sweeping, brushing.
    • Pressurised water jets: max. temperature 60° C, max. pressure 60 bar.
    • Mechanical cleaning: paint stripping, grinding, scraping, localised removal, etc.

Waiting time for new mineral renders:
The substrate must be dry and the render must be sufficiently set before the application of the primer and intermediate coats.
The waiting time for re-coating depends, among other things, on the weather conditions and the layer thickness.
Tinted colours may require special measures (e.g. longer drying times for the finishing render, a primer coat of CapaGrund Universal, scaffolding tarpaulins for protection, etc.).

    • Reference value for waiting time at 20° C and 65% relative humidity: at least 1 day per mm of layer thickness, but at least 7 days.

Waiting time for new pasty render:
Can be reworked once fully dry, but at the earliest after 2–3 days.
If necessary, apply one priming coat of CapaGrund Universal.

    Old mineral renders, concrete:
Clean and remove any layers of poor stability.
Reworked areas must be set and dried well.

Slightly absorbent, smooth: apply a priming coat of CapaGrund Universal.
Coarsely porous, absorbent, slightly sanding: apply a priming coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund or CapaSol RapidGrund.
Strongly sanding, chalking: apply a priming coat of OptiSilan TiefGrund or Dupa-Putzfestiger.

    Old, pasty, matt coatings:
Clean and remove any layers of poor stability.
    Slightly absorbent: see coating build-up.
Moderately absorbent: CapaGrund Universal diluted to a max. of 3% with tap (800-960) water.
Highly absorbent, chalking, sanding: apply a primer coat of OptiSilan Tiefgrund or Dupa-Putzfestiger.
If necessary, apply an intermediate coat of Caparol PutzGrund 610.

    Preparation of Material

    Ready to use.
Adjustable to working consistency with max. 2 % water.
Stir the contents of the container thoroughly with a slow-speed agitator.

    Method of Application

Apply the render over the entire surface using a stainless steel trowel and smooth it down to the grain. Immediately afterwards, use a plastic trowel or a plastic float to spread it evenly in a circular motion. You can structure the sraped render horizontally, vertically or in a circular pattern.

The choice of tool influences the roughness profile of the surface, so always work with the same textured discs.
Finish contiguous surfaces without interruption to avoid build-up in the textured layer. Divide large
façades into sections, wet-on-wet apply and texture continuously.

The consumption figures are reference values excluding bulk and shrinkage loss. Object-dependent or processing-related deviations must be taken into account.

    Application Conditions

During the application and in the drying phase, the ambient and substrate temperatures must not be below +5 °C and above +30 °C.

Do not apply in direct sunlight, strong wind, fog or high humidity. Please refer to the leaflet "Verputzen, Wärmedämmen, Spachteln, Beschichten bei hohen und tiefen Temperaturen" (Rendering, Thermal Insulation, Filling, Coating at High and Low Temperatures) from the Bundesverband Ausbau und Fassade (Federal Association for Finishing and Façades).

In unfavourable weather conditions, take suitable measures to protect the facade surfaces being treated.

    Drying/Drying Time

Primer and intermediate coats must be dry before further application.

The waiting time for recoating depends, among other things, on the weather conditions and the layer thickness. The specifications refer to ambient temperatures of 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity and serve as a guide.
The drying and hardening of the material takes place through chemical and physical processes and the release of the contained water, i.e. its evaporation. Cool and humid environments delay these processes.

    • surface dry after approx. 24 h
    • hardened, can be walked on and painted over after approx. 2-3 days

    Tool Cleaning

Rinse with water immediately after use in accordance with legal regulations.

    Example for Machine Equipment

    • Feed pump e.g. m-tec P 25 V

    Delivery hoses:
Start hoses, inner Ø 35 mm; end hose, inner Ø 25 mm

    Conveying distances:
Maximum delivery distance approx. 50 m; delivery head 30 m
    (temperature- and device-dependent)

    Sprayer:
Nozzle-Ø dependent on the grain size

Pre-flush delivery hoses with lime slurry or paste before regular operation.
If work is interrupted, do not leave the delivery hose in direct sunlight, cover the material container with foil, for example, and keep the gun and nozzle under water. Stand for max. 30 min. until further processing, otherwise the material in the hose may harden.
Before a work break, the material container in the feed pump of the ‘open system’ (continuous mixer + feed pump) must be emptied as far as possible to prevent material tunnelling when restarting. If this is not observed, the material may have to be made ‘passable’ before the machine is started up (with the machine switched off). Further information on this can be found in the Caparol "Handbuch der Spritztechnologie" (Spray Technology Manual).

    Follow the machine manufacturer's instructions.

When spraying, the nozzle to be selected depends on the grain size.
(Nozzle size = grain size x 4). The working pressure should be 0.3–0.4 MPa (3–4 bar).
When spraying, make sure that the material is applied evenly and that overlaps at the scaffold layers are avoided.

    Note

This product is equipped with special active substances against fungal and algae growth. The depot of active substances offers long-lasting, temporary protection, the duration of which depends on the object conditions, e.g. the moisture load, the location, the architectural design, etc.. It is not possible to permanently prevent fungal and algae growth. The risk of premature attack by micro-organisms can be significantly reduced by using a facade paint that has been treated with a film protection agent.

For lightness values below 20, coat the render in ETICS with a solar-reflective façade paint (CoolProtect, TSR value ≥ 25) in at least two coats after drying, depending on requirements. TSpecial measures must be taken for LRV < 30 on solid wall structures, e.g. an additional reinforced base coat with full-surface fabric inlay on the lightweight base coat, and for LRV < 20, an additional solar-reflecting facade paint with TSR ≥ 25.
Note the limits of feasibility in the respective system.

In the transition area between area in contact with the ground and the plinth or in similar splash-water zones, a suitable moisture protection (e.g. SockelFlex or SockelFlex Carbon) should be applied up to at least 5 cm above ground level on the finishing render.
