Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund

The cationic barrier primer

  • LV Texte

    Field of Application

Suitable for insulating priming coats on wood and derived timber products (wood based materials) with content of water-soluble, brownish discolouring wood components. The primer is used before applying Capacryl acrylic enamels or Capadur Wetterschutzfarbe NQG/Matt.

    Material Properties

    • Ecologically compatible
    • Cationic insulating effect against water-soluble, discolouring wood components
    • Provides high adhesion and grip of subsequently applied coatings
    • Diffusion-capable
    • Suitable for children toys as per DIN EN 71-3

    Material Base / Vehicle

    Suitable Substrates

All wooden parts intended to be coated with water-dilutable/waterborne acrylic coatings and which are at risk of showing brownish discolouration in the finishing coat, caused by water-soluble wood components.
The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, dry, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion.
The moisture content of dimensionally stable wood must not exceed 13 %. Moisture content of limited dimensionally stable wood and wooden parts of unstable shape: max. 15%.
Basic principles of wood preservation for constructions must be followed. They are the basis for a durable wood preservation with coating materials.

    Substrate Preparation

Sand/grind the surface in fibre direction, clean thoroughly, then remove seeping wood contents, e.g. wood resin/rosin and resin galls (pitch pockets), cut sharp edges (see BFS Data Sheet No. 18).

    Method of Application

Capacryl Holz IsoGrund can be applied by Orelmix brush, roller or spraying equipment. Dilute to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water and stir thoroughly before use. On wood with rich content of wood components a brownish discolouration may occur in the first Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund priming coat. The discolouration is bound into the film due to a cationic insulating effect. It is mandatory to let the material dry for approx. 12 hours before applying any further coatings. For wood with extremely rich content of wood components, a second priming coat of Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund may be necessary.
Apply a trial coating, if necessary.

    Note:
Due to the cationic insulation an incompatibility with waterbased products appears when in direct contact. Important: Clean tools and Airless spray gun detailed after use!

Apply two intermediate coats on dimensionally stable wooden parts as per BFS Data Sheet No. 18.

    1) Always apply Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund on wood containing water-soluble, discolouring wood components. Apply a second coat on knots and wood with rich content of wood components.

    Consumption

    Approx. 100 - 130 ml/m2 per coat.
Consumption is a reference value and may vary depending on substrate conditions.
Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

    ■ Material, circulating air and substrate temperature: min. 8 °C (favorable range: 10 to 25 °C).
    ■ Relative humidity: ≤ 70 %.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Ensure good ventilation during use and drying. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using the product. In case of contact with eyes or skin, immediately and thoroughly rinse with water. Do not allow product to enter drains, waterways or soil. Clean utensils immediately after use with soap and water. Use P2 dust filter for grinding. Do not breathe spray dust. Use A2/P2 combination filter for paint spraying.

    Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
In Germany: Only completely empty containers should be handed in for recycling. Dispose containers with residues of liquid product via waste collection point accepting old paints and enamels. Dispose dried/hardened product residues as construction site/demolition/municipal or domestic waste.
