Field of Application
Selected noble shades of grey give, from the very beginning, the impression of a naturally and evenly greyed surface, as otherwise may be generated in the nature only after many years in favourable climatic conditions.Preferred fields of application are wooden facades, which are intended to show a natural appearance. Capadur GreyWood is also suitable for fences, balcony balustrades, window shutters, gates and other wooden parts of unstable shape or with limited stability, but also for dimensionally stable construction elements like windows and outer doors.
Only for exterior use! (The interior surfaces of outer windows and doors belong to the exterior surfaces.) Capadur GreyWood is provided with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to algal and fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould growth). The film preserving agent delays infestation.
Depending on biological exposure/contamination, on extremely stressed wooden parts, e.g. in the area of flat roof soffits or on board-shaped wood derivatives (e.g. boards of maritime-pine), the attack may occur again, even before normal warranty time limit has ended. Do not apply on wood with permanent contact to the ground and moisture/water.
Material Properties
- Noble shades of grey due to pearlescent pigments.
- Excellent protection against UV rays due to reflecting pigments.
- Provided with a film preservative against fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould).
- Thin-bodied (low film-building) wood stain, allows better renovation.
- Water-dilutable.
- Non-blocking.
- Conform with VOC Decopaint Directive (2010).
- Non-dripping consistency.

Suitable Substrates
Substrates must be clean, sound/stable, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Max. permissible moisture content in dimensionally stable wood: 13%; in limited stable wood and parts of unstable shape: 15%.The principles of constructional wood preservation are to be observed. They are the basis for a durable wood protection with coating materials. Please follow BFS Data Sheet No. 18, section 2.2.3 et seq., before applying on board-shaped wood-based material, e.g. solid wood, veneered plywood, particle boards or wood fibreboards.
Tips for the Upkeep of Coated Wooden Parts:
A long-term maintenance of value can only be obtained by professional upkeep of coated wooden parts at regular intervals. Hints for maintenance and required time periods are given in BFS Data Sheet No. 18, attachment C.
Substrate Preparation
New Wood Surfaces:
Sand smooth, planed surfaces in fibre direction, clean well and remove seeping wood contents, e.g. wood resin/rosin. Impregnate exterior surfaces with Capacryl Holz SchutzGrund.
Existing Wood Surfaces:
Sand (abrade/grind off) greyed, weathered surfaces to the solid, stable substrate and clean the surface. Wash algal & fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) completely off and disinfect the surface with Capatox. Impregnate with Capacryl Holz SchutzGrund.
Coated Wood:
Remove all unstable existing coatings completely to the stable substrate. Wash algal & fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) completely off and disinfect the surface with Capatox. Impregnate with Capacryl Holz SchutzGrund. Clean stable, adherent coatings and apply one covering priming coat of Capacryl Haftprimer in suitable colour shade for renovation (Caparol 3D/Palazzo 205). Apply one intermediate and one finishing coat of Capadur GreyWood in the desired colour shade (wood grain technique).
Preparation of Material
Capadur GreyWood is ready-to-use, but should be stirred before use. For brush application use special brushes for acrylic enamels with a mixture of polyester and natural bristles (e.g. Orelmix). For roller application use short pile polyamide rollers, then refinish with a brush.
Capadur GreyWood can only be spray applied in closed facilities (enclosed spray booth), due to the content of film preservative against algal & fungal attack.

Consumption
70 - 100 ml/m2 per coat. Consumption is influenced by the substrate condition (e.g. roughness, absorbency, etc.). Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+ 8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Drying/Drying Time
At 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity the subsequent coat can be applied after 4 hours, at the earliest. Touch dry after approx. 1.5 hours. For further use respect a drying time of min. 4 hours. The drying time is extended at lower temperatures and higher humidity or in case of insufficient air exchange, e.g. when boards are packed closely.
Tool Cleaning
Clean tool after use with water and wetting agent. We recommend
wearing nitrile gloves.
