    Suitable Substrates

Primed and pre-painted, dimensionally stable wooden parts, metal and unplasticized (rigid) PVC.
The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, dry and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Max. permissible moisture content in dimensionally stable wood: 13 %.

    Substrate Preparation

    Wooden Parts:
Sand the surface in fibre direction, clean thoroughly, remove exuding/seeping wood contents, e.g. wood resin/rosin and resin galls, cut sharp edges (see BFS Data Sheet No. 18).

    Iron, Steel:
Derust to industry standard SA 2 1/2 (blasting) or ST3 (mechanically) according to DIN EN ISO 12944-4.

    Zinc/Galvanised Surfaces, Unplasticized (Rigid) PVC:
Wash with light ammonia solution using sanding pad according to BFS Data Sheets Nos. 5 and 22.

    Aluminium (not anodised):
Clean with nitro-thinner or phosphoric acid solution using sanding pad according to BFS Data Sheet No. 6.

    Existing Coats of Paint:
Sand the surface of existing coats slightly and/or treat with alkali. Remove unstable coatings.

    Mixing Ratio

Add 10 % by volume of Capalac PU-Härter/Hardener and mix thoroughly.
Follow Technical Information No. 093 Capalac PU Härter/Hardener.

    Method of Application

    Application:
Optimum result is achievable with high or low pressure spray application. Roller application on small surfaces is also possible. The surface to be coated must be absolutely free of fats/greases, oils, hand perspiration (wear protective gloves, if necessary). Priming with Capalac Vorlack (undercoat) is essential, tinted to match the finishing coat in shade.

    Spray Application:
Thin with Caparol AF-Verdünner/Thinner to spray consistency (see table above). Spray a first, thin-film cross coat with reduced material flow. Allow to flash off for approx. 7 to 10 minutes (at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity), then cross spray again. A blushing effect may occur on large-sized surfaces.

    Roller Application:
Adjust the material with approx. 5 to 10 % by volume with Caparol AF-Verdünner/Thinner to working consistency. Apply evenly by brush or use non fluff forming Mohair/velour roller (e.g. Storch paint roller Velour, article no. 156115). Allow to flash off for approx. 5 to 7 minutes at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity, then treat again with a foam plastic roller (evenly, in one direction). Slight blushing and ropiness/streakiness (noticeable marks) may occur, when the material is roller applied.

Two intermediate coats are required on dimensionally stable wooden parts (according to BFS Data Sheet No. 18).
Note: Adhesion must be tested in advance for powder coatings, coil coatings and other critical/problematic substrates by coating a test area on site.

    Consumption

    Spray Application:
    Approx. 150–180 ml/m2 per coat.

    Roller Application:
    Approx. 120 ml/m2 per coat.

Consumption is only a reference value and influenced by the substrate condition, e.g. roughness, absorbency, etc.
Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Workability

Pot life (workability) at +20 °C: 8 hours.
Note: The end of pot life is not noticeable.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+ 5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.
