Suitable Substrates
Wood(en)/timber floors. Substrates must be clean, sound/stable, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. The surface must be absolutely free of floor maintenance products that may have been penetrated to the substrate, in order to avoid low adhesion and significantly extended drying times. Carefully sand existing (old) wood floors and staircases by suitable parquet sander (grinding machine), if necessary. Maximum permissible wood moisture: 13 %.Substrate Preparation
Uncoated Wood/Timber Floors:
Sand the surface in fibre direction, clean thoroughly and remove seeping wood contents, e.g. wood resin/rosin and resin galls.
Existing Coats of Paint:
Sand the surface of sound existing coats slightly and clean thoroughly. Remove unsound coats.
Method of Application
Capalac Fußbodenlack is applicable by brush or roller. Stir up before use and thin with synthetic resin thinner or Caparol AF-Verdünner (non-aromatic solvents), if necessary.Drying can be accelerated when using Capalac PU-Härter (polyurethane based hardener).
Surface Coating System
Substrate | Use | Substrate Preparation | Priming Coat | Intermediate Coat | Finishing Coat |

Sound existing coats of paint | interior | sanding/cleaning | – 2 | Capalac Fußbodenlack 3 |
1) Thin Capalac Fußbodenlack 10 - 15 % when using on untreated wood 2) Prime defects with Capalac Fußbodenlack, thinned 10 - 15 %. 3) Intermediate sanding is required before applying the finishing coat. |
Consumption
Approx. 80 to 100 ml/m2 per coat. Consumption is only a guide value and may vary, depending on substrate requirements. The exact consumption is best established by a trial coating on site.Application Conditions
Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:+ 5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air. Advisable processing temperature: + 12 °C to + 25 °C.
Relative humidity must not exceed 80 %.
Drying/Drying Time
At 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity dust dry after 5 hrs. Carefully accessible after 8 hrs.Fully dry after 48 hrs and ready for stress after 3 days (normal loads in the private living area).
Lower temperatures, higher humidity or reduced ventilation extend the drying times.
Note: The floor enamel dries oxidatively (reacting with atmospheric oxygen). Therefore only a wet film thickness of approx. 75 - 100 µm can be applied, as usual for alkyd enamels (alkyd resin varnishes). Otherwise the drying time is significantly extended and a higher wet film thickness may lead to surface defects. The use of Capalac PU-Härter is advisable.
Tool Cleaning
Immediately after use with white spirit.Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)
Flammable liquid and vapor. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. In case of fire: Use dry sand, dry chemical or alcohol-resistant foam to extinguish. Store locked up. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.Contains: Naphtha (petroleum), hydrotreated heavy; Low boiling point ydrogen treated naphtha.
Disposal
Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures. In Germany: Only completely emptied clean containers should be given for recycling. Cans/containers with residues of liquid product must be sent to a waste collection point accepting old enamels.
