Capadur LasurGel

Thixotropic, non-dripping wood stain with film preservation
against fungi. Open-pored, thin film forming. For exterior use.
  • LV Texte

    Field of Application

For colourful designing and protection of wooden parts of non dimensionally stable shape, e.g. fences, balustrades, pergolas, etc. In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 18, section 2.2.3 et seq. for coating boards of wood-based materials, e.g. solid wood panels or laminated veneer lumber.
Do not use for interior spaces.

    Material Properties

    • Gel-like
    • Thixotropic
    • Non-dripping
    • Thin film
    • Open-pored/porous, moisture regulating
    • High protection against UV rays
    • Easy to apply
    • Easy renovation
    • Non-flaking
    • Contains a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal attack

    Material Base / Vehicle

Alkyd resin, free of aromatic hydrocarbons.

    Packaging/Package Size

    Standard colours:
    750 ml, 2,5 litres, 5 litres

    ColorExpress:
    750 ml, 2,5 litres, 5 litres

    Colours

    • Standard Colours:
Transparent, Pine, Oak (light-coloured), Nut tree, Walnut, Mahagoni, Teak, Palisander (rosewood), Ebony, White.
    • All colours are intermixable in any desired ratio. Tinting via ColorExpress stations (Capatint and Capalac mix) in special shades of the Caparol 3D System plus colour fan and in many shades of other colour collections. Tinting base is the colour shade Transparent.

Note: Some colour shades are only limited suitable for exterior use. Detailed information available at ColorExpress stations. Use transparent product only for priming coat - equalising the absorbency of wooden substrates - before applying pigmented coatings, otherwise a sufficient protection of wood against detrimental effects of UV rays cannot be guaranteed.

    Gloss Level

Silk flat/semi-matt. The gloss level may vary depending on the substrate.

    Storage

Keep in a cool place, in tightly closed packaging.

    Density

    Approx. 0.85 g/cm3

    Solids content

Approx. 17 - 20 % by weight, depending on the pigmentation.

    Suitable Substrates

Dimensionally unstable, absorbent wooden parts. The substrate must be clean, stable/solid, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Permissible wood moisture content (WMC) exteriors: 12 % for hardwood and 15 % for softwood, on an average. Basic principles of wood preservation for constructions must be followed. They are a precondition for long-lasting wood preservation with coating materials.

    Substrate Preparation

    New Wood:
Sand/grind smooth surfaces in fibre direction, clean thoroughly and remove seeping wood contents,
e.g. wood resin/rosin and resin galls (pitch/resin pockets).

    Existing Uncoated Wood:
Sand/grind off greyed, weathered surfaces to the stable, solid substrate and clean the surface very thoroughly.

    Coated Wood:
Remove existing coatings such as enamels and thick-film wood stain to the stable, absorbent wood and clean thoroughly. Roughen/sand the surface of adherent thin-film wood stain (translucent coatings) and clean thoroughly. Check for compatibility with Capadur LasurGel.

    Method of Application

    Application:
Capadur LasurGel can be brush applied without stirring.

For light/bright colour shades two coats are necessary to obtain an optimal UV protection. One intermediate coat will normally be sufficient for dark shades (Nut Tree or darker). The transparent product has no UV protection and is preferably used as base material for tinting.

    Consumption

Brush application on smooth wooden surfaces:
Approx. 80 - 100 ml/m2 per coat, depending on substrate absorbency.
Brush application on semi-rough (sawn) wooden surfaces:
Approx. 200 - 250 ml/m2 per coat, depending on substrate absorbency.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
Min. +5° C for product, substrate and ambient air.
Relative humidity must not exceed 80 %.

    Drying/Drying Time

At 20° C and 65 % relative humidity dry and recoatable after 12 hours. The absorbency of wooden substrates influences drying time and gloss level. On wood containing wood ingredients/contents
(e.g. oak wood) the drying time may be longer.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Flammable liquid and vapour. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Avoid release to the environment. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Use P2 dust filter for grinding. Do not breathe spray dust. Use A2/P2 combination filter for paint spraying.
