Wood stain, protecting against moisture and UV radiation.
For exterior use on dimensionally stable wood and wooden parts of unstable shape. Water-repellent hydro-pearl effect.

    Field of Application

    Suitable for colourful designing as well as moisture and UV protection of dimensionally stable wooden parts, e.g. windows and doors, or components with limited dimensional stability, such as panelling with tongue and groove, shutters, gates, framework construction, etc.  Also suitable for wooden parts of unstable shape, e.g. panelling, fences, shingles, balustrades, shuttering, pergola, etc.
    Only suitable for exterior use. The product is provided with a preservative against deterioration in the coating film due to fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) attack.

    Note: The film protection agent can only temporarily counteract the forming of fungal growth (attack). On surfaces subjected to extreme loads the fungal attack may occur prematurely. The product cannot fight the cause of fungal attack. The efficiency cannot be projected because it is highly depending on existing biological conditions on site.

    This wood stain is unsuitable for use on wooden parts in direct contact with soil. Exterior doors and windows may be treated on all sides with the product. Capadur UniversalLasur is a decorative translucent finish and has a protective effect against moisture (humidity) and UV radiation. 
    Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 18, section 2.2.3 et seq. for coating boards of derived timber products,
    e.g. wood plates, veneer plywood.

    Colours

    Pine, Oak (light-coloured), Walnut, Nut Tree, Palisander (Rosewood), Teak, Mahogany, Ebony, Transparent, and a nearly opaque renovation shade for wood grain technique.
    All colour shades can be blended in any mixture ratio.


    Tinting via ColorExpress stations (Capalac mix) in special colours of the Caparol 3D System PLUS colour card and in many colour shades of other colour collections. Tinting base is the colour shade "Transparent".

    Note: Some tints are only limited suitable for exterior use. Detailed information available at ColorExpress stations. Use transparent product only for priming coat (equalising the absorbency of wooden substrates) before applying pigmented coats of wood stain, otherwise a sufficient protection of wood from UV rays cannot be guaranteed.

    Suitable Substrates

    Absorbent, dimensionally stable wood, limited dimensionally stable wood, and wooden parts of unstable shape.
    The substrate must be clean, sound/stable, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Max. permissible wood moisture in dimensionally stable wood: 13 %, in limited dimensionally stable wood and in parts of unstable shape: 15 %.
    The principles of constructional wood preservation are to be observed. They are the basis for a durable wood protection with coating materials.

    Substrate Preparation

    New Wooden Parts:
    Sand smooth and planed surfaces in fibre direction, clean thoroughly and remove seeping wood contents, e.g. wood resin/rosin and resin galls.

    Untreated Existing Wood:
    Remove greyish, weathered surfaces until a sound/stable substrate is obtained, then clean thoroughly.

    Coated Wood
    Sand the surface of existing alkyd resin wood stain and clean the surface. Remove unsound existing coatings.

    Method of Application

    Apply Capadur UniversalLasur only with a brush. Stir Capadur UniversalLasur before use.

    Application on Uncoated Exterior Wooden Parts:
    Minimum 3 applications of pigmented wood stain are required for proper protection of wood from UV rays. Transparent product should only be used in addition, to equalise/adjust the substrate's absorbency. Renovation on sound alkyd resin wood stain: 1-2x Capadur UniversalLasur.

    Wood Grain Technique on Exterior Wood:

    Consumption

    Brush-application on smooth wooden surfaces: Approx. 80 - 120 ml/m2 per coat.

    Application Conditions

    Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
    Min. 5° C for product, substrate and ambient air.
    Relative humidity must not exceed 80 %.

    Drying/Drying Time

    At 20° C and 65 % relative humidity recoatable after 12 to 16 hours and completely dry after 24 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time. On wood containing wood components (e.g. oak wood) the drying time may be longer. The surface coating system of Capadur UniversalLasur is suitable for exterior wood.

    Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

    Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid release to the environment. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Use P2 dust filter for grinding. Do not breathe spray dust. Use A2/P2 combination filter for paint spraying.

    Contains 4,5-dichloro-2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one, 2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one, bis(1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate. May produce an allergic reaction.

    According to European Regulation 528/2012 this product is defined as a "treated article” (not a biocidal product) and contains the following biocidal substances: 4,5-dichloro-2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (CAS-No. 64359-81-5), 2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (CAS-No. 26530-20-1), 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate (CAS-No. 55406-53-6). 

    Disposal

    Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
    In Germany: Only completely emptied clean containers should be given for recycling. Cans/containers with residues of liquid product must be sent to a waste collection point accepting old enamels.

    of this product (category A/e): 400 g/l (2010). This product contains max. 400 g/l VOC.
